Can't see any reason he would agree to that, if he is getting out of town he's not going to gut his new team of assets. This isn't like Tkachuk wanting to cash in on his best season, McNugget is getting paid regardless.

Between what happened with Gretzky in '88, and seeing firsthand what just happened in Calgary this summer, it kinda blows my mind how Oiler fans have zero concerns whatsoever about this possibility in 2026. A more (undeservedly) over-confident fanbase, there never was.
But I sincerely hope Oilers fans feel that confident about it right to the end, it'll make it all the more shocking and painful when it happens haha

The problem is if this current group can’t get it done it is over. They have committed to this core, McDrai, Nurse, Nothing-Happens, Hyman and Kane.
They have no significant cap coming free in the coming years and will be hard pressed to even fit in Bouchard’s new contract next year. This is the team that they are betting on that takes them to the cup. If they falter and miss the playoffs or a quick first round exit, I would not be the least surprised if either McDavid, Draisatl or both request a trade at the end of this year since the following years will just be a rinse and repeat.
This is a massive year with a ton of pressure on the Oilers

I'm sure it'll happen this time.

Every team is committed to their core though. You sign your best players for as long as you can and hope they’re good enough. That seems to be the approach of every single team.

Every team has committed to a core and we're less than two months from being in the conference finals. Things are looking real good and the windows has really just opened up.

Well fingers crossed that Jack Campbell, coming off his first full season as a starting goalie at the tender age of 30 is the guy to lead the Oilers to the promise land.

Could happen. Nugent-Hopkins passed on his out and chose to stay but maybe he likes it there cause it’s the kind of place where nothing happens.

It’s best to keep the windows closed in Edmonton to keep out the stink.

With that D and goalies, you still think you can win games 6-5 but instead you'll lose games 4-6. lol
