Tkachuk has more points this season than Poolparty does in his entire 109 game career. Talk about ####ing up that pick eh Oilers.

Some of the McDavid/Crosby comparisons are hilarious; they can make it sound like Crosby is all intangibles, etc. Crosby has insane skill. He can score of the rush, AND off the cycle. He makes crazy high-IQ passes and has an elite (perhaps THE elite) backhander. He can snipe top corner, and break ankles. He is an elite shot-tipper as well.
Add in his compete level, faceoff ability, 2-way game, etc, and McD has a long way to go to really be in the conversation if you ask me.
Oh and let's not forget he's won literally everything possible, both in team and personal awards. I would list them all but I'm too lazy. Like I said, it's basically everything except a Memorial Cup (although he took the Océanic to the tournament and was the top scorer)

When Crosby came in to the league, it was a long time since a "generational talent" was hyped up as much as him. Probably since Lindros. There seemed to be a lot of people rooting against him.
McDavid on the other hand has been given the golden boy treatment since he entered the league. And it seems like now, every few years there is a new "generational talent".
IMO, McDavid is definitely the best young player to enter the league since Crosby, but the separation in talent between guys like McDavid and the rest of the top players in the league, is a lot smaller than it was when guys like Gretzky and Lemieux were tearing up the league. It doesn't mean as much to be a generational talent. There are probably 20 players in the league right now that would have been "generational talents" 20 or 30 years ago, back when the term meant something.

Even Swedish hockey podcasts are starting to make fun of Edmonton.
“What are they thinking?”
“What’s going on?”
“Weird management”
They usually only comment around the popular teams and Swedish players.
E=NG truly is universal.
Edmonton is globally accepted as No Good.

For a so called generational player who plays a 1 way game, albeit a pretty damn good one, with the ice time he gets, he should be 20 points up in the scoring race. he is a fantastic player but not generational as he is only a 1 way player.

I have a feeling he made up at least half of those names.
Also, where does he think Lucic is going to be? That contract isn't going anywhere.

It's obvious at this point he is getting paid by the Oilers to write propaganda. I mean seriously.
You can't be a dedicated hockey fan and not see the gaping holes and dire future circumstances that club is in. From Staples, it's nothing but roses.

Given the time I expect great things from McDavid - that is as long as he gets out of the tire fire up in Edmonton.

Crosby won a Stanley Cup in his 4th season.

So, Staples is saying the Oilers will be an AHL team by the time Seattle arrives in the NHL?

I'm surprised he didn't have Hughes on that list.

Half of those names are meh players at best that will never see the light of day in the NHL. Because the Oilers are riding the fail boat of not only murdering their first round picks hopes and dreams, but have utterly failed to draft well in subsequent rounds this is a team that even though they draft high in every round have a pretty empty cupboard.

That list from Staples is just silly.
Every team has blue chippers ... then guys where things could work out ... then guys with limited skill but a good chance to fill bottom roster roles.
But his list is well beyond that.
Bouchard is going to play ... has some warts. Benson is off to a decent start in the AHL but he's Mangipane or Foo.
It would almost be like this ...

By then, Flames roster will be transformed by youth. Valimaki, Mangiapane, Dube, Foo, Gawdin, Kylington, Phillips, Joly, Svenigsson. Good players bubbling up.

Yup and 10 years ago it was Plante, Gagner, Cogliano,Nilsson, Peckham, Schremp, Smid, etc. The future has been bright since 2007.

You're the brains here, but when I look at the Oilers list of prospects, the closest to a Blue Chip prospect is Bouchard, and he has some real skating issues. Their elite prospects are what Bear, Jones and Skinner? That's not great in terms of what's going to be able to help them in a year or two.
Lowe and Chia have really done a number on that team due to draft and player mismanagement.
