This is plain 3” flat-stock finger jointed pine. So, theoretically the 90 cuts don’t affect the appearance since there are no details or anything. I just wanted to make sure there was no other reasons to do 45 cuts, like for joining them all together or anything. I was planning on making the simplest cuts possible, brad nailing, and filling in the joints, and painting.

I finally finished my shed last night after starting it in October. It was a massive undertaking for the limited available time I have. I learned a lot going through the process and I am happy with the results.

It was inspired by Scandinavian architecture and the exterior sides and roof are clad in tongue and groove pine. The overhang and decking are cedar.

I feel it was a strong investment as there is about 4 million in timber on this shed now.

The Black Shack

Surferguy and I started building our sheds around the same time, but I finished mine as the first snow hit, because I build things super quick, like garages...

I don't want to steal his thunder by posting mine today.

What product did you use for paint/stain?

We wanted to use Shou Sugi Ban on a project but as the quotes come in are thinking about a black paint/stain instead.

Do it. This thread could use some dueling sheds.

Spoiler!

Mine is more of a "how efficiently can I use this space between the houses" design. I still need to do a brick work pathway and redo the brick around the outside area. The sheltered section is awesome though, and no snow gets in the area in the winter. It's great for storing lawn furniture and garden stuff out of sight.

The feature design item is the sliding door with the secondary door for lawnmower egress. Thought and engineered that beauty up all on my own! I've got a cool rod system that locks with the key code(which is why it is sideways).

The siding matches my garage, and this years project(baring siding price through the roof) is to repaint the stucco, then match the garage siding where the crap vinyl is.

Both cool sheds! Surferguy, what did you use on the cedar?

I have built this over the past 3 summers. Decking is PT with a natural preservative to get it to go silver-y and the structure and screening is cedar. I have used tung oil on it but it seems to wash away. You can see the difference in the 4x4 where the overhang covers it partially. I'd like it look 'wet'.

This year, I added the rolling sunshades, trimmed out the bottom in cedar, and have started surrounding the foundation of the house in rock gardens. Patio at the bottom of the stairs next year.

Anybody have some good recommended companies for garage doors?

We recently bought and the garage door is starting to fall apart so we need to replace.

Looking for something light and that has good insulation.

I ended up using a black exterior paint. My guess is maybe 5 yrs before repaint? I have one roof pitch and wall that will get the brunt of the exposure and I don't really know how it will hold up. I was considering a stain but the wood was roughsawn and it would have been a pain in the ass to do - paint won out.

I've done a bunch of sugi ban and I do find that when done in exterior fashion you end up with some weathering. If leaving the crocodile skin on I find that high sun exposure will start to flake that layer off. If doing a sugi ban where you scrub off the layer, after a few years the black color starts to fade out leaving you with a tiger stripe of reddish/greying/original burnt black. I like the look but that should be known before going down the sugi ban route.

The best combo for me would be, burn it, scrub it (to gain the texture) then stain or paint for a lasting effect. Feel free to PM me if you want more info.

I used two different treatments. Penofin (timbertown) on the vertical and Sico, a sikkens product (windsor), on the decking. I don't like the Penofin as much as they want you to do it yearly and I find the color fades very quickly and nobody has time for that kind of maintance.

this is the first time I've used the sico and we will see how it turns out.

Looking for recommendations for concrete sealer for an aggregate stone driveway. Going for the 'wet' look and the one I tried from Home Depot last year (cant remember the name brand, Ducan?) wasnt that good

First off, loving the black shed.

I have been debating painting our foundation black, I think the black with the red brick and stone work in the front will cause the house to pop.

Seeing the posts people are making with black is solidifying this decision. I was worried how a black shed would look, but I think it'll work.

So last week I had a conversation with my father-in-law about building the deck. He picked up what I needed and told me what to do.

Turned out decently, exactly what I wanted a little something to wheel the BBQ onto, maybe put a chair and have a beer (need to look into extending the wifi to reach the shed).

So, any rough ideas on how much it costs one to get a small basement finished? Would be a one bathroom / one bedroom / living space type area, plumbing is roughed in for the bathroom. I just honestly have no idea, we're new to being detached home owners where we can actually do things.

We can't afford it immediately but I want to have a ballpark for how much money I should get saved up before we can start talking about it.
