Possessor is great but Luz was kind of forgettable IMO.

Not really sure what to make of Color Out of Space
I felt like the movie had a great setup, ignited the catalyst, wallowed in despair, and then whatever payoff or conclusion we were supposed to see ended up on the cutting room floor at an entirely different studio

I have a friend who is a lot smarter than me (psychoanalyst) who really liked this one, but think he was tying it back to the novel an all of the significance of everything. The more I drum on the movie the more I kind of like it. But I wasn't a fan of the style or the way it was oddly predictable. I won't go into spoilers too much but if you think of the relationships everyone had with each other, it's a bit more compelling.

They seemed to like weirder atmospheric style horror stuff and was trying to think of those. I liked Luz for something different.
We Are Still Here might be my favourite on the list, it felt a lot like a throwback VHS rental.
Edit: engine you may like Saint Maud. Fits the profile of the things you listed.

The Void was way better than I thought it would be going in. Really great character design and practical effects.

Yeah my brother was telling me to try out Saint Maud but I haven't got around to it yet.

Agreed, The Green Knight was incredible.
I'm fully on board with all the weird arthouse horrors/thrillers lately.
The Lighthouse, The Lobster, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, etc.
The dialogue and delivery style in Yorgos Lanthimos movies alone is such a bold choice that wins me over in its absurdity. 'Old' tried something similar but felt accidentally comedic to me instead.

It was an experience for sure... while I didn't hate it like OptimalTates did, I certainly admit I was a bit confused by it?
Its visually gorgeous however, and 'fever dream' is a good description.
I watched some explainer videos, which is a bit of a cop out I know, and plan to rewatch it with this background in mind.
I respect the vision of it, and found some part fantastic... but understand why some people don't like it.

Watched a couple of horror movies recently
You're Next: Decent attempt at changing up the formula, it was entertaining to watch the main girl be just as deadly as the killers. But the acting and dialog were terrible, and the story was very predictable. 6.5/10
Ready or Not: Now this one was awesome, fantastic female lead with a very fun unique premise and a lot of great dark humor. Great supporting cast also with the perfect amount of character development. If you're a horror fan and slept on this one it's a must watch, 9/10

Not time to die was campy, fun and sad all at the same time.

I really liked no time to die
Felt like a really good blend of the best parts of the 'traditional bond movie' mixed with the style of the Daniel Craig ones.
I would love for the next bond if they went back and did a 60s set time frame

Some suggestions if you enjoyed Last Night in Soho; 10 Rillington Place, The Eyes of Laura Mars (written by Carpenter), The Guest, Body Double, Blow Out , Alice Sweet Alice , and Terror Train.

GREAT choices.
I love both of them, and they're in a similar vein.
With YN, pretty sure it wasn't taking itself seriously and was just running with that and it made for a horror-comedy of sorts that my friends and I still refer back to. The whole ####ing next to deceased relatives bit had us in stitches.

I watched Phantom of the Paradise for the first time yesterday and it blew me away. Just an amazing whacky 70s musical that's insane and campy and brilliant.
The story is about a musician who is writing his masterpiece based on the legend Faust and an evil music mogual steels his songs and wants to use them to open his new music venue the Paradise. There is alot more to it, but that's kinda the basic elements.
Apparently when it was released everywhere hated the film in North America and it only lasted a week in theatres, except Winnipeg where it was huge and played there for a year.

Just watched this finally. So weird.
Like you said it felt completely unique but I was also a little underwhelmed as I had envisioned more going on based on the brief trailer I saw... but I still really enjoyed it.

Wife and I watched Jungle Cruise this past weekend.
It seemed to try very hard to replicate the fun and campy vibe of the Brendan Fraser Mummy, and failed badly.
Even if you like Emily Blunt and The Rock, don't waste your time. 4/10.

Agreed. I thought it was trying (and doing a poor job) to be Pirates of the Caribbean … on a River.
My kids didn’t like it either.

I like the first 2/3 of it.
As soon as it started to explain itself with backstory it totally lost its momentum.
It does borrow an alarming amount from the 1999 Mummy.
