Too bad Carey Price wouldn't donate a few million to a children's hospital and make a video about it. He might unexpectedly end up on the trade market.

There has been speculation he could be moved since he only has a year left on his contract.

The only way I would want to see Elliott back is if he signed a short term (like 1 year) deal for the same salary, and the plan was to make him a 1B goalie in the event we got someone like Grubauer, Mrazek or Raanta.
If we happen to get an undisputed proven #1 goalie though, I would rather see someone like Rittich come in as back-up.

1. MAF carries Pens to a Cup
2. Meanwhile, Price balks at extension with Habs
3. Tre trades for MAF
4. Tre flips MAF ++ to Habs for Price (Cup winning francophone goalie, best hope for Bergevin to sell a Price trade)
5. Flames win EVERYTHING!

Maybe. I was just using this site https://www.capfriendly.com/expansion-draft and it said any goalie signed for 17-18 or is an RFA at the end of 16-17. So I saw it as anyone signed for next season, which they could do between now and when they submit their list to the league.

Like I said, I'm not sure. But I can't see how a contract that hasn't officially begun can be taken.

The tandem would be Howard- Johnson.

Halak for stajan and mid level piece makes a world of sense to me and allows cap space to aquire a winger and defenceman even if we still have Brouwer. Man I miss when we had cap space, would've been nice if we made better use of it too. Damnit Feaster

How is cap space Feasters fault? He kept the vault door closed for the incoming GM. I don't think there's one player on the roster that feaster negotiated a contract for. Stajan was RE upped by Burke during the transition to Treliving, Gio was re--signed by Treliving, and Wideman and Engelland are now both off the books. So...... Blame Treliving?

Lots of talk about goalies but what about the other pieces we need?
I see Han fans are tossing Gallagher's name in a lot of trade proposals and he would be a fit for our top line RW. A bit small but a hard guy to play against. I wonder what the cost would be there? Good contract as well.
As for the blueline I am all for bringing back Stone but not as a second pair guy. Do the Flames look at Alzner? Is there a trade option out there? Trouba is the perfect fit but would cost far too much

I'm thinking that he was referring to the fact that Feaster "wasted" the cap space when we had it while he was the GM.

Not sure how even that is relevant to today's roster and this regime.

2nd pairing RHD - Manson, Trouba, Pesce, Savard or Tanev would be perfect but cost a ton to acquire, so the cheap easy option is to just resign Stone
1st line RW - Gallagher, Coyle, Trocheck, Toffoli, Stone, Drouin would all be awesome as young options, but like the D mentioned above would cost a TON or in most cases the player is probably not even available. For vet options I like Carter, Neal, Hornqvist or Nyquist, but still a cost involved. Probably just going to stand pat and build the forward group from within unless something unexpected pops loose.

Should've been more clear in post. I don't blame Feaster for using cap space. I blame him for not using it to aquire anything of substance. Wideman and Hudler we're decent stop gaps but have done little for our future. I'm getting off topic though.
I 95% blame Treliving for our cap situation. It's his biggest flaw IMO. He's done a good job mostly and we're not in that bad of a situation but he hasn't helped much other than Frolik and maybe Engalland but not really. It must be hard knowing how to spend in free agency when you learn the ropes with the coyotes.

The only questionable contract on the books right now that Tre signed is Brouwer, and there is time for him to bounce back and make his hit more palatable. I guess the $1 million on Raymond's buy out too, and probably a million too much for Bouma, but not much you can do when the guy has a career year right at free agency and then can't follow it up. At least he learned by not making the same mistake with Colborne.
Stajan - Burke
Wideman - Feaster
Smid - Feaster
Engelland - Worth every penny
All of those except Stajan are about to expire and only 1 year left on Stajan.
Frolik, Gaudreau, Monahan, Brodie, Hamilton, Gio, Backlund are the big contracts that are on the books that Tre signed and they are worth ever penny.

Howard historically is not a good goaltender. I'd even much rather gamble on Elliott bouncing back rather than betting on Howard.

I never said he did a bad job as a GM. But when casual fans can tell a signing is bad right away it's concerning that a pro does that. Raymond I can forgive in the rebuild stages. Brouwer I can forgive as we desperately needed a RW. Engelland I can forgive as we needed toughness on D. What I can't forgive is paying all 3 of those guys 2m a season more than they need. Most of this doesn't effect today's roster directly but it could have effected past trade discussions and even free agency. We will never know. I just hope we're done signing silly contracts.
I don't really wanna discuss this anymore and this probably isn't the right thread. Hopefully this clears up the confusion on where I stand.
Really interested to hear what people think about a deal surrounding halak/Stajan like in my first post.

I'd be a little shocked (although it is McPhee). Vegas is much better off drafting as many top-four d-men as they can get and trading some of them to shore up things upfront, which is where they will be especially weak. They only really need one bonafide starter in net and they can look for quality prospects with the other two G.
