the Koran burning is pissing off pretty much every Muslim in the world. the leader of Indonesia has declared burning the Koran a threat to world peace. While that last sentence is ridiculous, it highlights how serious this is overseas. Pissing off 1.5 billion people for no real gain as far as I can see is f***ing stupid.

On another note: While burning the Koran is insulting, I think anyone who would offended by that just needs thicker skin.

It is ironic Devils Advocate thrust the gay marriage issue into this thread. The last holy book burned in North America was a book of Mormon in Utah. It was burned by Homosexuals angry because same sex marriage was rejected on a ballot in California. Funny I don't recall all the Mormon violence that must have followed.

How do you define a right and how do you define a permission?

If being treated equally by the government regardless of your gender, race, sexual orientation, etc, etc is not a right... what is?

Does a person of colour need a right to sit at a lunch counter or permission? The play on words seems a little silly to me.

I would actually think that having to ask permission from the self appointed local spokesperson for the man in the sky would be even more demeaning. But that is just my opinion.
