I personally refuse to tip or pay for delivery fees, hence I just refuse to ever eat out at any place that requires tips or fees to subsidize their staff. It also means no social life but that's fine lol. I know many people both young and old that have somehow transitioned to uber eats and skip for every meal. Every day in my building, I'm seeing delivery people. I just can't imagine being in that mindset of paying $50 every time I have a craving and then having to wait for someone to drive and show up. It's easier to raid the fridge and be full in 5 minutes.
I just don't see any way to change this however, North America is too entrenched in its ways. Every now and then, we see a restaurant come out with a fair wages, no-tip policy, it hits the news, and then it fades away.

I don't understand how people can order and enjoy noodle soups by delivery. These things have to be fresh. Many places have gotten good with separating the noodles from the broth in their complicated packaging setups but you still get cold noodles stuck in a clump which you need pour warm (not hot) broth over and try to breathe some life back into them. Pho is even worse because there is no satisfactory bowl that comes with any delivery service. All of them are too small for Pho and all the ingredients you need to add to it. If you had your own Pho bowl at home, you could dump the ingredients together at that point, it'd be easier to make your own Pho. The only part that takes time is the broth and you can get that pre-made at the supermarket.
It's the same with ordering a steak or even McD by McDelivery. The steak is cooled and the fries are soggy.

The only way it could conceivably happen is for the government to ban tipping which would in turn force the formerly tip-subsidized employers to pay a decent base salary to their staff. And there's no way that will ever happen.
BTW, the very best restaurant service I've ever had in my life was when I visited Japan, a famously non-tipping culture. Every table in every restaurant is equipped with a button you press if you need something. If you push the button, a server shows up at your table within 10s to help you. And the best part about this is that if you don't push the button, they leave you the F alone. There's absolutely none of that nonsense where they interrupt your conversation every two minutes to ask how the first few bites tasted. Why can't we copy that system in the West? It works so much better than how we run restaurants.

Pho via delivery (or take out) is primo... besides pizza thats one of the only things we consistently get as delivery or take out. And yes we have some massive bowls from Ikea specifically for pho haha. I've never seen it where the broth doesn't come separate, 2 minutes for assembly at home isn't a big deal IMO.
But you're bang on for everything else via delivery. Usually cold and soggy. Not worth it at all.

It's like saying you would be a limo driver but you'd never book one for yourself. I have used Skip and Door Dash, but only when I have a stipend/per diem/expense option for work reasons. I also don't willfully go eat at restaurants. If I get pulled into one because of friends or family then sure but I never go to one on purpose or of my own volition.

And that vile 7/11 food people order. Oh my it smells like ass, but you see the delivery guys there. Probably a result of legalized weed.

If you deliver to my neighbour, I might dock a few cents off my tip.
If you sit in your car and have the company call me asking me why I haven't gone outside to go get it, I might dock a few cents off my tip.
If you try to deliver to my garage door in the alley, I might dock a few cents off my tip.

How about you get rated as a customer by previous drivers? They should know your average tip per order but you still control the tip based on quality of the service.
But like others here, I hate delivery. Don’t want my food handled by others, don’t want it to get cold. I love to eat out but delivery is a no for me. If we’re staying in, I’m picking it up.

Okay...I dont know about you, but when was the last time you walked into a 7-11?
I am sorry...but ever since they started selling 'fresh' food...I have a limited (at best) sense of smell but I am fighting a gag reflex when I'm in 7-11 and smelling their....'what might be chicken.'
I dont know what it is, but I've got to get in, get what I need and GTFO ASAP.

How long before the Parking Pay machines and your property taxes will have an automatic tip "option". (Other than the usual fixed annual 5% increase of course.)

Ya, I don’t know. I don’t eat any of that. It’s stuff my wife orders and I don’t understand it, delivery or at a restaurant. Liquid meals are not my jam. Thankfully we moved and our new place doesn’t have a screen door. We also don’t have a porch and front steps like we used to and drivers love to put things on the bottom step so you can’t see it and have to go out through the snow to get it.

Friends of ours order dessert from a place like Moxies. Like $30 for a couple cheesecake slices or something. Crazy.

I’ve done that. Order 6 orders of cheese toast from Hys. Definitely worth it.

The original Claresholm 7-11 location's chicken has been money for at least 2 decades (not the new one at the north end of town)

At least 35 years. I used to live back in Claresholm, and my mother worked at that 7-11. She was allowed to bring home some leftovers.
