I always wondered what the penalty was but that is pretty hardcore. I thought they would just add on a few seconds but that is a way better idea.

Too bad the Canadian missed once at the 2nd station... he would possibly be in contention if he didn't miss.
Everyone's missing!

See, an event like this, I'd love to see a Canadian medal. It's so unknown in these parts and would be a great story.

Yeah, they said the Canadian is 6th.. he won't drop down much cause of the conditions.
A top 10 finish in biathlon would be cool.

So, your finishing position in this affects your starting in the next event?

Yeah, that is pretty insane. It's like combining 5000 m and 10 000 m running during summer olympics.

The Chinese goalie is pretty good. She's going to face 100 shots

Nordic Combined is even more random to me. Biathlon at least is an idealized version of hunting in northern climates. I've never seen the historical/human significance of skiing off a mountain, save a latent desire to commit suicide in dramatic fashion.

USA looks like they could break Canadas record from yesterday at this pace...I thought the Chinese were a bit better than this?

It's 5-0 after the first between USA/China...guess who is leading?
I'm shocked to see a half empty building for this game. I know it is Women's hockey and it's China vs USA but you would think people would just want to go to experience it all.

They're not watching 18-0 at those prices!

From Wikipedia:
Quote:
The sport has its origins in an exercise for Norwegian soldiers, as an alternative training for the military. The world's first known ski club, the Trysil Rifle and Ski Club, was formed in Norway in 1861 to promote national defence at the local level.

I guess it makes more sense to me now. But yes, Nordic Combined makes me scratch my head a little.
