I hate the Yankees, but I love the idea of the Yankees. It seems like they have spent the most for a hundred years. They're always the team to beat. It is fun to root against them, it is fun to beat them. Parity kills the drama somewhat. Dynasties are fun.
There's no cinderella stories, no underdogs if everyone is equal.
It does suck for teams like the Jays though who have to play in a division with both the red sox and yankees.
Pedro pitching in Yankee stadium should be quite the show. As a long time Pedro fan, it is a nice treat to see him get one last kick at the cat in a very meaningful game. Could go very well, or very badly.

Weather isn't looking to good for game 1 tonight. Periods of rain throughout the NYC metro area today.

Hour by hour forecast said the rain will end right at game time, but time will tell.

Sounds like the weather has improved. Gates still scheduled to open at 3pm MT. I bet Stan's Sports Bar is just packed right about now.

The Yankees are taking batting practice so it looks like game one is a go.

Nice, cannot wait. I would have been extremely disappointed if it had gotten postponed.

Cliff Lee tosses an absolute gem in game one. Yeah, pretty good move for the Phillies to go out and get that guy.

That was quite the performance.
Interesting matchup tonight. I'm still not sold on AJ Burnett, could be a good game.

My Thoughts on Game One
Cliff Lee is the best arm in baseball right now. That was one of the best World Series performances you'll ever see.
Saying that, none of the Yankee bats showed up besides Jeter. It was a telling moment when they flashed to the Yankee dugout around the 6th or 7th and everyone had there head down but Jeter was clapping his hands trying to get Matsui going at the plate. Arod and Texeria better realize soon that they've accomplished nothing so far. I do think they bounce back tonight because if they don't this series is as good as over.
Burnett is almost as big a Wildcard as Pedro tonight.
Also Johnny Damon is really weighing down the top of the Yankees lineup.

Teixeira is only batting .186/.250/.279 in the postseason. He started off slow in April then became red hot after that. I hope he can get back to form in the series. As good as guys like Melky are playing, it should be the high paid stars like Teixeira that are putting up the big numbers.

The Canadian gets the Phils on the board first.
An A-Rod error is not what the Yankees needed to start this game.
The Yankees lineup is hardly an intimidating presence for the Phillys. Damon, Texeria, Swisher and Cano have done virtually nothing and while Cabrerra has been hot he hardly possess any power to really drive runs in.Then when you also take into consideration how bad the Yankees bullpen has been with the exception of Rivera there really going to have to rely on Pettite and Burnett tonight to go deep into these games.

Is there anything better than seeing Howard strike out for the millionth time with runners in scoring position?

AJ pitched well. We saw a lot of that during the season. We also saw him tank a lot during the season. Good to see that he could be relied upon in a must win situation.

Wow. Phillies with 2 late inning HR's in the 7th and 8th to tie it at 4 vs the Yankees in game 4.
