For our Final pick, The Second City Saints select:
In the PPV category
The Original Survivor Series 1987
Development
The event was added after WrestleMania III, to market the success from Hulk Hogan and André the Giant's rivalry. Vince McMahon threatened cable companies who aired the NWA'sStarrcade (which was going head-to-head with Survivor Series on Thanksgiving night, 1987) instead of Survivor Series would not be allowed to broadcast WrestleMania IV. Most cable providers gave into McMahon's threat and only a handful aired Starrcade.[7]
The main event was a Survivor Series match where André the Giant, One Man Gang, King Kong Bundy, Butch Reed and Rick Rude faced WWF ChampionHulk Hogan, Paul Orndorff, Don Muraco, Ken Patera and Bam Bam Bigelow. Muraco was not scheduled to compete in the match but replaced "Superstar" Billy Graham, who was originally scheduled to be Hogan's teammate but retired because of his hip injury suffered during a match against Reed. Hogan did the first elimination after he hit a leg drop on Reed and pinned him to eliminate him. Patera and One Man Gang were next. One Man Gang hit a 747 Splash on Patera to eliminate him. Rude and Orndorff were next, who were having their personal problems due to who Bobby Heenan would manage. Orndorff had got the better of Rude until Bundy distracted him and Rude rolled up Orndorff to eliminate him. Muraco joined the match and powerslammed Rude to eliminate him. One Man Gang entered and then hit Muraco with a 747 Splash to eliminate him. André's team was having 3 members while Hogan's team had 2. Hogan and André brawled with each other until the action went to the outside where Bundy and One Man Gang prevented Hogan from reentering the ring. Hogan, the team captain himself was eliminated and Bam Bam Bigelow remained the only member in Hogan's team. He managed to fend himself after he hit a Slingshot on Bundy to eliminate him and One Man Gang missed a 747 Splash as Bigelow pinned him. He however fell victim to the captain of opponent's team André who hit a butterfly suplex to win the match.[5][2][6]
OH, YOU DIDN'T KNOW!?! YOUR ASS BETTER CALL SOMEBODYYYYYYYYYYY!!!
You're damned right. It's me. It's me. It's the D-O Double-G. Rollin' once again with the B-A Double-D.
Ladies and Gentleman, Boys and Girls, Children of all ages...Degeneration X proudly brings to you its WWF TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS OF THE WORRRRRRRRRRRLD!!!
The Road Dogg Jesse James! The Bad Ass Billy Gun! THE NEW AGE OUTLAWS!!!
As its 12th choice, Team Malfunction Junction selects, in the Tag Team Category: The 5 time WWF Tag Team Champions, The New Age Outlaws.
Think of a food that you really hate, and then think of another food that you really hate...Now, imagine if combining those two foods made a food you really liked...That's how I think of the New Age Outlaws: Two guys who sucked whenever given singles pushes (Mr. Ass? Really?), but when you put them together, they were one of the most entertaining and popular teams in the Federation.
Monty Sopp made his WWF ring debut under the name Billy Gunn in a tag team with his storyline brother Bart. The Smoking Gunns were 3-time tag champs before Billy broke up with Bart. After a brief feud between the brothers, Billy was taken under the wing of the Honky Tonk Man, where he took the name of Rock-a-Billy (a gimmick very similar to HTM's).
Brian James, son of former wrestler "Bullet" Bob Armstrong broke into the business using his father's ring surname, being billed as Brian Armstrong. James soon joined the WWF as "The Roadie", the assistant to "Double J" Jeff Jarrett. Jarrett's gimmick was as a country music star, but it turned out that The Roadie was the real musical talent of the team, and he declared himself to be "The Real Double J" Jesse James.
Eventually, the two really bad music gimmicks collided, and James convinced Gunn to drop the Honky Tonk Man and the two men agreed to team up. As a team, James began calling himself "The Road Dogg" and Gunn became "The Badd Ass" Billy Gunn (because double letters are apparently anti-establishment and stuff).
In November 1997, the new tag team defeated The Legion of Doom to become the tag team champions. Their cheating victory and fleeing from the building led Jim Ross to refer to them as "New Age Outlaws" leaving the scene of a robbery.
Needless to say, the new nickname stuck, and the team's new Attitude fit perfectly with the new "WWF Attitude" and caught the attention of Degeneration X, which they became official members of in 1998, the day after Wrestlemania 14.
Throughout 1998, D-X and the Outlaws grew to become one of the most popular groups in professional wrestling, challenging the nWo, helping the WWF to win the Monday Night Wars (including staging the famous D-X invasion of Nitro among other events).
While together, the Outlaws were 5 time WWF Tag Team Champions (of the WORLD).
In 2001, James was released from the WWF, and joined TNA in late 2002 (using his real name, B. G. James).
After the break-up of the Outlaws, Gunn made an ineffective attempt at a singles career before teaming up with Chuck Palumbo, in the gayest (literally) storyline in WWF/E history.
After a decade with the company, Billy was released from WWE in 2004. He joined TNA in early 2005.
Eventually, the two men re-teamed, first calling themselves "The James Gang" and then "The Voodoo Kin Mafia" (the initials VKM being the same as Vincent Kennedy McMahon's).
And if you're not down with that, we've got two words for you...SUCK IT!!!
So, in the mean time, and in between time, that's it, another edition of Team Malfunction Junction.

Would anyone be interested in a overall draft summary? For example: the 1991-2000 category in a 1-14 list in order drafted? It would be neat to have a overview of that I figure. It might take a little bit but I would be willing to compile it.
...I gotta' admit that I'm not too familiar with this tag team, having watched primarily WWE wrestling during the early 90s and again in the late 90s, but PWI ranked the Michael Hayes / Terry Gordy edition of the team as the 3rd greatest tag team of all time...combine that with the the number of championships the team has won in various organizations, and they look like a pretty damn good team.
...I have to admit I was thinking of taking the Bushwackers, being a memorable team from when I used to watch a lot of wrestling, but I think I made the best choice.

That's the bottom line, because StoneCole said so!
...I really dropped the ball here...had I been more prepared I could have had the Nation before Getbak...the Nation seems like a pretty legit stable compared to the J.O.B. Squad...in spite of this I really enjoyed watching the J.O.B. squad...the idea that some jobbers could make it...the commentary it provides on that particular role in the wrestling business...
...guess that's all.

I remember seeing the freebirds wrestle in texas when I was a kid. Terry Gordy was an unbelievable big man. Michael Hayes was all character and Buddy Roberts was a manager/wrestler. They were one of the first tag teams that would defend the tag titles with different teams all the time as Roberts would sub in and out with Michael Hayes (And yes that fat WWE guy was in fact Michael PS Hayes from the free birds)
If you watch the opening scene from the original and only good Highlander movie, that was the free birds in the wrestling match.

I'm amazed that nobody picked the Green Street Posse as their stable.

So we've finally reached the end. Here's my team made up of the best of everyone else's picks:
2009-2001 - John Cena (StoneCole) 1991-2000 - The Rock (SteveToms); honorable mention: HHH (Proto), Eddie Guerrero (Superflyer), Chris Jericho (getbak) 1980-1990 - Undertaker (CaptainCrunch); honorable mention: Shaw Michaels (Superflyer), Chris Benoit (SteveToms), Sting (droopydrew19) Pre-80's - Ric Flair (Superflyer); honorable mention: Andre (getbak), Hulk Hogan (StoneCole) Tag Team - Hart Foundation (droopydrew19) Stable - Four Horsemen (CMPunk); honorable mention: D-X (HalifaxDrunk), Evolution (SteveToms) Women's - Trish Stratus (getbak) Personality - Bobby Heenan (droopydrew19) Storyline - Austin vs McMahon (StoneCole) Title Belt - The Big Gold Belt (getbak) PPV - Wrestlemania X-Seven (Superflyer) Match - Bret Hart vs Steve Austin (CaptainCrunch); honorable mention to everyone else!
Thanks a lot to everyone for doing this. I had a lot of fun organizing it and going through with it, and it was nice to actually have wrestling discussion on CP without people jeering and making fun of wrestling fans. So cheers, and here's to possibly another wrestling draft somewhere down the line.
The Big Show
Owen Hart
Booker T
Kane
DDP
The Rock vs Hulk Hogan (WM XVIII)
Sable
The Nasty Boys
Two-Man Powertrip (I seriously thought about this one)
Bookdust (Booker T & Goldust)
Brothers of Destruction
The APA
Rock 'n' Sock Connection
For me, Big Show not being chosen was the biggest shock, as he's currently the only man to ever have won the WCW, WWE, and ECW titles.
Yeah, I haven't really watched a lot lately, and all of the big guys who've debuted this decade were already chosen, and I didn't want to sell out by picking an older guy who "debuted" in TNA this decade.
Benjamin was the first name I could come up with who actually debuted this decade, and is decent in the ring.

Only problem is he seems to have a glass ceiling, now Morrison he is a future star.
So, I read through this old thread. You guy's dont know nothing about wrestling if no one took the greatest show-man ever in Wrestling - Honky Tonk Wayne/The Honky Tonk Man.
