I took it in to a local watch store who then shipped the watch out to Vancouver. I believe they specialize in Vintage and high end watch repairs.

Hey watch dudes - my wife wants a Fossil watch for Christmas like one of these:

Where is the best place to pick one up? The Fossil store in Southcentre Mall, or are they available online for less money (and with shipping that would get it here before Christmas)?

TIA!

Naturally Amazon.com, if it ships these to Canada, will most likely be the cheapest place. Go window looking here, then order it up online!

Don't have a picutre of it on my wrist, but I pretty much had the best 30th birthday ever!
Not the moonwatch, but close enough for my liking.

The seamasters are such nice watches. I also love the planet ocean. Came really close to buying one, but went with the IWC pilot instead. Then sold it

Team CP Omega is growing!

BBS, that's one hell of a great birthday gift, someone out there must really like you. I actually got my Speedmaster on my 30th as well, but it was a gift to myself, since no one else was going to spend that kind of money on me. I absolutely love the watch....its' been almost a year but I still find myself staring at it in random daily situations.

Red, that's a very nice vintage piece.

Depending on where you get them and which models, most Omega's usually run anywhere from 3-10k.

Omega's are more or less the same quality as Rolex's, but usually a slight notch below in price because of Rolex's perception....although they are making a big push upmarket lately, and closing all their dealer network in favor of boutique stores.

Good tip if you're looking at getting a really high end watch. (Omega, Rolex, etc).

These things are pretty much the same price no matter where you go, but if you or someone you know is traveling to a country where you can get a VAT (Value added tax) refund, you can save some money.

That new watch I got for my birthday was about $600 cheaper because it was picked up on a trip to Italy.

If you're planning to get an Omega, there are some good dealers on the watch forums (ie. Watchuseek.com) that will give you a nice 15% discount...you just need to ask around a bit. Not sure what it's like to shop cross-border, but I bought mine from a dealer in DC and thus didn't even have to pay sales tax since it was out of state. Saved myself almost a grand this way compared to buying at the Omega boutique.

Rolex is a little harder to get a deal on, as they restrict demand a bit more (and since it's the go-to watch for people who have no clue about watches but want a name), so you're usually lucky if you can get it 5% below retail.

They are expensive, no doubt. It was bit of a mental hurdle to get over the price, but I'm glad I did it. The way I justified is that a good watch will easily last 30-40 years with reasonable care, so I'd rather buy something quality that is made to last, as opposed to buying lots of cheap junk over and over. The only problem with that theory is that I still want more nice watches....

At end of the day it feels great to wear, presents well in front of clients, and looks effin fantastic when it catches the right light...and as most guys, I appreciate a really nice piece of engineering and crafstmanship. Sure it's just man-jewelry, but I love the fact that I have this hiding under my wrist:
