I think FlamesNation is taking a more negative slant on the team, and playing into it. Which makes sense and I suspect is intentional to be a counter choice to 960, which can't do it to the same degree.
Yeah, I think a little bit of awareness over how entertainment media works probably pays off in spades here. Robert Munich’s tweets (or whatever his name is, close enough) only seems to get shared when they have a pretty negative slant to them. I think it would be a mistake to assume he and others like him are not totally aware of that.

From there right up to the top guys like Francis. They know how to get hits.

So are we attributing negative coverage of the Flames to primarily non-traditional outlets driving for clicks?

No that's not what I'm saying.
The team is deserving of criticism including for the recent PR blunders, which were totally unnecessary and further undermined fan confidence.

But within the range of media coverage 960 cannot attack the team with the same intensity that others can. Steinberg pretty much said it in a recent post game show, acknowledging that as the broadcast partner, you aren't going to hear some of the same takes you hear elsewhere.

FN is in a good position where they can be more critical, and therefore it's smart when there is something negative going on, they really focus in on it. I think it is both a legitimate perspective to take, but also an intentional strategy on their part. I suspect the opinions, by some of the folks on their shows, represent their real views, but probably dialed up a little (or a lot).

As for Francis, he gets a lot of criticism on this site, which I've never fully understood. I think his work this season on the team has been balanced and strong.

This, plus media members are just like lots of posters when it comes to having a narrative and sticking with it. If a pundit has a belief in how the Flames are, then they post stuff that matches that narrative.
