Probably safe to say by now that Suniev won’t be signing an ATO to join the Wranglers this season.
Maybe the flames and his camp wait it out to see if there are less meaningful games down the stretch and offer him a game or two at the NHL level? Seems doubtful the Flames are willing to burn a year on his ELC.
Surprised there isn’t more chatter surrounding him. His point totals in College are right around the production of where Coronato was at when he turned pro.
I posted a few times last year that I felt he was being overrated. I felt that he was a man-sized kid dominating an inferior level of hockey, compared to most- although many pointed to him having glowing advanced stats. Still plenty of time for him to turn things around I guess, but I didn’t want the Flames to take him. I did have him in the early stages of the second round on my final list though, because of how high the scouts had him projected. The kid really does skate and stickhandle like a dream though.
I’m still shocked at how poor his numbers are this year, even despite the fact that he’s probably not getting much ice time on a stacked roster.
I watched him fairly closely in Manchester playing against Denver. There really isn’t much there to like except being tall. BC actually doesn’t have a stacked lineup aside from its first line. That was one of DU’s big advantages, actually, was their depth. Despite the shallow lineup, Letourneau was on their fourth line and they got beat by DU’s fourth line quite badly. Looks like a bust to me unless he develops very late which I suppose is possible for someone his size.

Juniors Cole O’Hara and Kenny Connors and sophomores Aydar Suniev and Michael Hrabal are other key Minuteman players with the option to sign pro deals, and while Carvel didn’t comment on specific expected departures, he mentioned more are likely on the way.
“We’ve lost [Lucas] Mercuri, [Ryan] Lautenbach, Joey Musa [to graduation] and now Dans [to the NHL]… there’ll probably be more,” Carvel said.
UMass had nine drafted players on its roster this season and that in and of itself forced Carvel to start mapping out a plan for next season as early as this past semester break.
“I think this year because there was such a large group of kids possibly leaving, we had to have a sense of who was going to be leaving.” Carvel said. “In years past, we all know who the guys are that are most likely, but this year, you got to communicate. The kids were all great communicating with me.
“I asked the group at Christmastime, just where their heads were at,” Carvel said. “Then I think I checked in with them probably three-quarters of the way through the year, then right before we went to Fargo. The kids were all great, all very honest, very up front and that’s all I can ask of them.”
“He's just such a lovable teammate. The guys, you can see how they feel about him. They would just run through a wall for him. I'm so happy for him,” Gadowsky said. “For him to come on top tonight against his former team obviously, and for him to make history at Penn State, is really special. I'm very happy for him. He deserves it.”
“His competitiveness is at the highest level I think I have ever seen, and it just matches our locker room so well. And he's such a good person. He's such a good, grateful, wonderful teammate,” Gadowsky said Tuesday. “The guys just love him. They just love him. And yes, he's been great on the ice. He's been awesome, but his play on the ice isn't close to the impact he's had on this program.”

Penn is down 1-0, apparently it was a rough goal to give up. Haven't seen it yet but apparently he had the puck but didn't know it, it was then poked in the net.
