It’s a 3 way deal
Calgary 50% retained to Jersey
Jersey (50% of their half retained) to Dallas
So
Everyone who says Calgary won’t retain is wrong
We retained as much as we can by the rules
Dallas just wanted 75% retained

Tanev will come back in the off season to mentor Grushnikov. Book it.

I'm coming around on this trade, but I guess I expected more. Grush hasn't put up any numbers in the years since being drafted, and hasn't progressed- how many D, even defensive D, make the NHL with 12 points in 56 games in their D+1, then 17 points in 65 games in thier D+2 in the CHL?

Should add Pachal. And it is a huge bonus having Kylington come back

At the end of the day, a 2nd round pick for a 34 year old second pairing dman isn't bad. Was hoping for more but Tanev is quite old and was purely a rental.

Solid deal by Conroy. Wasn't expecting much more than a 2nd, so getting a prospect with it makes it pretty good, even with the retention. The retention aspect is a good thing as it means that mechanism is now in play for the right price. Looking at the deal it must be a 2nd rounder? What used to be a big weakness in the system has quickly been turned around into an organizational strength. The blueline pipeline is looking pretty decent at a time when we need prospects to being filtering in. Overall, a good trade by Conroy.

Hudler. Glencross. Tanev. Any time you can get prospects/picks for UFA signings you take it and run. Subtle way to add some value to a team.
Grushnikov. Brzustewicz. Nice seeing the Flames add some more bullets in the gun on the back end. With all the first round picks of late being forwards, the Flames have been a bit light on D prospects.
Loved Tanev as a Flame. I’m always a sucker for a smart defensive dman. Hope he does well in Dallas.

The Flames have a history of doing well with 2nd round pick d-men. Here's another. And a tanev prototype? Hell ya.

I think for this return we could have waited until the deadline.

Very curious if NJ is involved as part of a handshake deal with all the Marky rumours. Especially with the salary retention aspect.

IMO it’s a pretty meh trade. Really thought tanev would get us a first. A 2nd and b prospect is alright but nothing great considering what other dmen rentals have gone for in the past. At no time did I think we could get Bourque from Dallas as some suggested.

My guess is that it was term he wanted and the Flames - being where they are in their timeline - weren't going to give it to him. Doubt that changes in the summer. If he doesn't get it from other teams, I'd imagine he signs with a contender or goes home to Van, because they're apparently a contender
Like I said, Id love if it happens but this type of thing RARELY happens, despite the fans (myself included) wishing it did.

This is a good trade for us. A pick and a decent prospect is pretty decent.
We may have been able to get more if Tanev was to commit to an extension for someone, but, obviously it appears he’s not ready to do that
Also
This makes Dallas that much better and a bigger problem for the Oiler

The best example that comes to my mind is…
Chris Tanev. He had a near identical stat line in the AHL to Grushnikov.
