Was Dreger saying anything specifically about the Lindholm camp?

No, I was waiting for that to get discussed but instead they were in a bit of a hurry to talk about how the Heritage Classic game will turn the Oilers season around

Celebrated Square Root Day

There's so many things said by so many these days, I literally just wait for Rastamasta to provide basically exact details as something gets close, even above all media insiders. He's plugged right in.

I take all these reporters with a grain of salt after all the "entire team wants out" talk in the summer
Most if not all of them actually wanted long term deals

I don’t think it was far fetched that before they fired Sutter they wanted out. With the rumours that lindholm won’t budge off $9.3 million per pretty much says to me he wants out unless he gets a big overpay.

Being a mediocre GM is pretty spot on, which is contrary to all the hate he gets around here. There aren’t more than 5 in the whole league who are considered great. The rest are mediocre to bad. And that’s not even surprising. 32 teams. 5 great, 5 awful, 22 mediocre. Sounds about right.
If your mandate is win now and never rebuild, then I think he did his role as expected. He just didn’t get the results. Puts him square in the meh performance category.

...yes, this is evidenced by...Mikael Backlund returning to the city in September and deciding "yeah, I think I'm okay to come back"...and no one else signing deals? Even (rumoured to be) massive contract offers to a player like Lindholm not getting signed. That's a clear indicator that he wants to a long term deal.

And even the great ones have been pretty mediocre at times. Lou L has not produced in NY, Steve Y has not gotten the Wings anywhere, really. Is Jim Nill great? Dorion? Sweeney? Blake? No cups there yet. And all of them have gaffes.

Toffoli wanted to sign, he said it himself
Sounds like Hanifin would be done if the Flames had a couple more wins

Show me a great goalie and I'll show you a great GM.
Players have good years and bad. GMs acquire players, based on information available. Said player takes a big leap forward, and the GM is seen as a genius. He takes a step back and the GM is seen as an idiot. In reality, neither situation was really in the GM's control.
Are there good decisions and bad decisions? Of course. But in a very competitive league, a fair bit of it comes down to player performance

Players, luck, and being in a city where players want to go helps.
Nopt that there weren't errors and bad moves. Neal, Hamonic were terrible acquisitions which could have been avoided (or the latter just on a better trade cost). I think moving Monahan was a mistake at that price. I also wish Flames management had been more agressive in cap manipulation. Put Lucic on LTIR if you want to sign Kadri, and you can keep Monahan and the first. Or put Monnie on LTIR. You know TB or Vegas or SJ would.

The impact a GM makes takes time.
Well, Yzerman didn’t get Tampa anywhere, right? GM for 8 years, left Tampa after a 62 win season to return to Detroit, apologized for not winning a cup… and then they won 2 cups with the team he built.
He joined Detroit in 2019 and quite frankly they aren’t looking too shabby to start this year.

All these players have the most value at the deadline. Taking a wait and see approach was a luxury they could afford. Now what they are seeing is a steaming pile of ####, so the plan as of now is likely, trade for futures at the deadline.

Toffoli only wanted to stay if he could get some of that sweet sweet 30+ long term money the Flames handed out the previous summer. When they offered him 2 years he immediately asked to GTFO

You can't just "put Lucic on LTIR"

Powerplay Quarterback

Right now, I wish we could start from scratch, entirely. Keep, Wolf, Coronato, maybe Tanev... Only because he seems to lead by example, especially for the younger players. But I can't think of a single player in this team, currently, that makes me want to watch. I can't imagine this roster attracting new fans, or inspiring young kids to cheer for them.

I don't think they offered him 2
I'm just saying the media pile on was misleading

NYI have been to the conference finals twice since Lou took over.
Lots of teams would die to be that mediocre.

Not sure how they could have put Lucic on IR, but what I think they COULD HAVE done was to say to Monahan: "look, we love ya, but you're lack of health is killing us. Take the year off, get whatever surgery you need, and rebuild your body, and we can start fresh next year (or int he playoffs)"
To me, that would have been a lot smarter than giving up a 1st to move him out, to save one year's cap hit.
