My guess is its more like 3 weeks to a month and possibly longer. In the Jays case thats about 15-18% of their season with one day off that entire stretch, best case scenario.

Obliques (if that is indeed the issue) take a long time to heal and particularly for hitters.

Its hard to turn your torso which is kind of critical to hitting a baseball.

I did this many years ago and i can only compare it to injuring/breaking your ribs. It hurts to sneeze or cough or even breathe deeply.

Hopefully its not a serious strain but it did not look good.

Slim Daddy Vladdy, though?

Rogers is going to need a fleet of dump trucks to bring that man his money.
He was 21.

He had been showing not just elite, but generational talent at every level.

But he struggles (a bit) in his first full year in the majors, and some fans think they can call him a bust because he was overweight (like that's never happened in baseball before) and because he wasn't instantly a superstar.

You can try and justify it all you want, but it was a ridiculous take.

The concerns were justified IMO.

Good on him for getting straightened out though. His level of talent was never a question.
There is a huge difference between 'having some concerns' and calling him a bust.

But some fans can't seem to see that.

When Vladdy was heavy, he looked out of breath after his home run trots. I realize fat guys have been part of baseball since the beginning, but even baseball has its limits.

You could literally see Vlad’s belly jiggle when he swung. It wasn’t healthy, and it was the most serious threat to his career.

I never doubted the talent for an instant- only the discipline.

Now that it’s clear he has discipline, he might actually get half a billion and an ownership stake out of his next deal.

When you single-handedly torch the Yankees and Gerrit Cole in their own stadium, you get some attention. Here’s a fun breakdown of his night:

Vladdy JR career stat line normalized to 162 games

35 HR 102 RBI 100 Runs .290/.368/.524 OPS+ 138

Vladdy SR
34 HR 113 RBI 100 Runs .318/.379/.553 OPS+140

that is pretty eerie- now of course Vladdy is still improving and making up ground after a 'lackluster' LOL 20 year old season, but on the other hand dad's numbers go up to age 36

Tonight's lineup:

Springer, DH
Bichette, SS
Guerrero, 1B
Gurriel, LF
Tapia, RF
Kirk, CA
Biggio, 2B
Espinal, 3B
Zimmer, CF

Tapia batting 5th lol

A couple of injuries and what I hope is just a day off for Chapman because his career numbers vs Severino are awful, and just like that we have Tapia batting 5th and our 1st Tapia, Zimmer, Biggio line up. Barely a week into the season.

Any idea if the game will be played tonight? I'm stuck at work and wondering how long I need to ask my wife to PVR for

Vladdy Sr also put those numbers up hitting a good chunk of his career in the Big O which was a step above the Astro Dome in terms of Home run killer ball parks. In a way it's a shame he played his best years in Montreal at a time when the Franchise was a zombie, and half the league was juiced right up on steroids. Otherwise people might have noticed at the time just how bloody good Vladimir Guerrero really was. It's absurd that he didn't win at least 2 MVP's in his time with the Expos.

It's going to be one of those games with a huge strike zone...

I've had it with umpire strike zones.

They are incapable of being consistent and the technology is there to take the inconsistency and human emotion/error out of ball and strike calls.

The first week of this season so far is as bad as I can ever remember it being. It needs to ####ing fixed. Makes me not even want to watch anymore.

I thought the Jays would be hard pressed to be shutout twice this season. Yet alone in a series. Yikes. Hope this post doesn't age well but what a bad showing by the bats tonight.

The McGuire and Grichuk deals are biting the Jays hard right now. This lineup would feel a lot deeper with them in it.

Tapia reminds me of Socrates Brito. Zimmer reminds me of Billy McKinney. Collins reminds me of Josh Thole. I hope they all prove me wrong.

We got duped by the opening night comeback. Team is still taking plenty of bad swings.

Will say it again. Team is going nowhere with Montoyo. Expect him to be fired at the all-star break when the team is something like 40-45.
