This bugs me a ton because if that was they case why didn't he hold back the Millenium falcon 2-3 times in the original movies? Why didn't he hold back the Tantive IV at the end of Rogue One? Maybe they are bigger ships but he didn't even try? The transport he caught and ripped open in this episode sure looked pretty big with a ton of thrusters.
I know they are doing this in the new series (Rey did it) but it seems way OP or out of his character.
I looked at it as a fatigue issue. Using that much of the force is draining on someone. Sideous' big fights left him weak and tired after them, Yoda in Empire needed to focus just to get the X-wing out of the swamp.
Vader was in full power mode ripping everything apart, and probably needed to catch his breath before being able to harness enough power to grab ship #2. Dealing with Reva was a minor annoyance in comparison to pulling a freighter back to the ground so I don't think it played a huge role.
I also think Vader in the OT is probably out of practice compared to Vader here. The hunting is mostly done so instead of ripping ships from the sky he will be force-choking mid-level functionaries who forgot the cover letter on their TPS reports. Obi-wan showed how you can lose attunement over time if you don't use it. Even Yoda had trouble lifting the X-wing out of the swamp, so I would assume Vader in Empire would have been out of practice (compared to this Vader) and maybe not prepared to seize the Falcon.

Probably not as much out of practice but that he's older. he's 41 by the time of the Battle of Yavin, and he's been living in a badly damaged body. That takes a toll as well.
I mean in ANH if he had those powers like in Kenobi the fight with a 57 year old Ben Kenobi would have been over and Vader would have crushed him into a basketball sized ball and slammed dunked his corpse through the hoop in the Death Star executive bridge.
Even when you look at his ability to throw objects, or even his force choke wasn't that impressive.
Even in Rebels while he was still awesome, it wasn't on the level of this.

I was under the impression that he didn't stop the ship - it was a fakeout to occupy him while the real ship left.
Yeah but it's still a huge ship with multiple engines and a ton of mass. Its not like it's a fake ship made of cardboard that he pulled back. If Vader's first instinct was to force pull on this ship to prevent it from escaping he would have done the same thing 10 years later against the Falcon and the Tantive IV.
Saying that being 41 means he's significantly weaker and doesn't even try to grab the ships or try a force choke on Obi Wan on the Deathstar, it really destroys a lot of mystique and power from the character in the OT.
The problem is overpowering characters in the prequels and trilogies whereas in the OT, it was clearly demonstrated that even outright masters like Yoda (sure you can use the old excuse again) had to focus and struggle just to slowly lift an X-Wing.
I think we're spoilers aloud here, but that's cool.
Yeah, in terms of the effects that you're talking about.
For some reason the show outside of a couple of times has felt like its cramped in small spaces, even the hanger scene in the Inquisitors fortress which was an absolutely huge area felt really kind of cramped and not do to the sheer number of people in the screen, I can't explain it.
Its because it’s shot on a tiny cramped greenscreen stage. And as a TV show, the budget probably mostly went to getting Ewen Mcgregor, rather than background effects or facial animation for de-aging.
CGI is easier than building stages or doing practical effects. And in big budget films it mostly works. But when it’s done on the cheap it just looks small, fake, and crappy.
I have the same issue with Star Trek Discovery, and Picard.
It was copied straight out of the videogame Fallen Order - even down to breaking window letting the water gush in - although in the game it was done to stop Vader.
I played the game, but I can't even remember that part.
This show is so supremely stupid. A fake out ship, really? Where was that ship before? And if they had two ships why was everyone waiting around for the first one to get back?
And after all that her grand plan to take out the dark lord of the Sith is to sneak up behind him and go “yeahhh!” With a lightsaber?
And of course she survives, everyone survives being impaled by a lightsaber now. Qui-Gon got done dirty in Episode 1.

Haha
I can't really argue with any of this. So much lazy writing in TV these days.
I'm still enjoying it though. Or at least trying to.
You can't miss the water part, unless you mash through a major end game cut scene.
I'm not exactly thrilled with my current cognitive situation as it pertains to memory, but I assure you if I was a Star Wars game I played the hell out of it, and probably twice over.

How nice of them to give us a good Obi Ani training scene...20 years too late. The PT should have started with Anakin as a Padawan and been full of moments like that. Then I would have actually believed they were the good friends they claimed to be, and his fall could have been much better than "what have I done??...yes master I go murder kids now."
I thought Obi-Wan said “together” to Reva…… and then he just bounced? That part confused me, I was fully expecting Obi-Wan and Reva to jump Vader.
He offered, she refused. She see's saw Obi as bait, and as part of her vengence, she was probably hoping he'd die at Vader's hands, and then she'd find a way to kill Vader.
She really didn't know how powerful a full Sith Lord really is. The Inquisitors were at best Knight Level, but a lot of them were Padawan level. Sidious didn't want them trained too well, because they'd grow to be a threat. I would think Vader and Sidious believed that Order 66 worked so well that a vast majority of the masters and Knights were wiped out.

I had to rewind that ship scene, but the second ship is right behind the first one. You can see it off to the right of the scene when they show them going towards the ships.
But... yeah I agree the writing is a bit messy. And the plan to kill Vader by Reva was stupid.
Imperial guns still suck donkey. Big cannon wheels in that requires a reload after each shot, and they barely made some scorch marks after like 30 minutes of nonstop firing. They would have made more progress with the Mandalorian robots just punching the door with their bare fists.
Reva then stabs through it like butter and it opens in 2 seconds. I guess she was just stalling to give the refugees time to prep their escape.

The writing is still awful but the only way to rationalize it is that she also blames Obi and wanted him to die too "He was YOUR Padawan" which means she blames him allowing a genocidal mass murderer come into existence. Just need a Sarah Connor vs Miles Dyson "it's all your fault! it's all your fault!" scene to make her actions make sense, but the writers are stupid.

I have refused to watch the prequels again since being disappointed 20 years ago, but didn't it take a long time for Obi Wan and Qui Gon to cut through the trade ship doors?
