Did anyone else catch Rory's shot at Norman in his post win interview?
Was that when he said it was important to have more victories than "someone else" or something to that effect? If that was a shot at Norman it's priceless.

Yeah he said it was his 21st PGA tour victory, "one more than someone else". I'm guessing it wasn't a shot at Hale Irwin, Doug Sanders or some guy called Johnny Revolta.
I'm a big McILroy fan fan. Hope the guy can pick up a couple of more majors.
Nice for the Tour that one of their mega stars won this week.

Very good showing for Canada this week on two fronts, we needed this so badly.
1. 5 of the top 10 golfers, very stacked field, with many stars right in the thick of it. Great storylines (Rose one shot off 59, Thomas vs Finau vs Rory). Fans were absolutely insane (Justin Thomas: 'This crowd is electric, it feels like a major out there').
2. Up against a human rights abusing regime's rival tournament that attempted to upend us and take all the spotlight for their inaugural event. They failed to do so, as their tournament came off goofy, sparsely attended (and it turns out most of the people that did attend didn't pay for their tickets) and more of an exhibition put on as a play toy for a brutal regime.
We won that week of golf, both against the Saudis and in terms of relevance on the PGA tour. Won't be surprised if the Canadian Open is an even bigger deal next season, especially if some stars from this week have great showings at the US Open, making other stars think twice about skipping it.

Rory McIlroy speaking of the Canadian Open vaguely vs the LIV league after his win when asked if this means more considering the upstart LIV league starting this week as well -

It feels really good..with other things that were going on in the world of golf this week, for the Canadian Open, a national championship to have a week like it's had. Three of the best players in the world going at it down the stretch, trying to win in front of those crowds and that atmosphere. That's what I talked about last week at Memorial, talking about a proper golf tournament.
That was just....that's as top notch as you're going to get.

It used to have the worst possible slot on the schedule when it was the week after the Open Championship. Now it has a fine spot ahead of the US open, especially if they keep the venuessomewhat close geographically to the US Open venues.
But yeah, in every way imaginable, this was a couple orders of magnitude a better tournament than the liv tournament. The Canadian OPen really started getting a bit of momentum in 2019 in its new spot and then Covid ruined everything.
Rory and JT's takes on the liv tour have been spot on and it was great for golf to see them compete head to head in a great atmosphere.
Oh, one last thing, the World Rankings of the top 3 at the LIV tournament:125, 134, 123 and 332 (T3).
World rankings of the top 3 at Canadian open: 3,15,5.
Oh man, the scheduling of the North American tournament after the British Open was basically a PGA meeting of "so, who do we completely **** with this slot?".
Shame it was Canada for so long. But what a positive couple of tournaments in the new slot. I honestly suspect with it being a warm up event for the US Open, along with the appeal of it being a big tournament on it's own will see it grow into something that the top 30 golfers mark down at the beginning of the season each year.
I mean with it being in a great slot, the history of it being one of the oldest tournaments, the Canadian crowds, the RBC sponsored golfers, the desire to "warm up" for the US Open etc, I could honesty see the Canadian Open being one of the bigger events of the season in the coming decade.
On par with any majors or playoffs? No. Up there with the best of the rest? Absolutely.

Three fronts actually, Brooke Henderson won her 11th tournament on the LPGA this weekend.

I hope the LIV guys are in heavy contention at the us open this weekend. Would make for great tv.
Every single golfer that signed on to that tour is dead to me, as a golf fan anyway. Fewer of them will show up for majors as time goes on as all of their world ranking points will quickly disappear. There are plenty of legit golfers to follow without having to watch the All Greed League. It's great that Patrick Reed is among them. His pace of play will screw up their shotgun format.

I'm kind of curious how the OWGR will play out. I know they've applied for ranking status, and seems like their tournaments format wouldn't exclude them. I'd think their strength of field would be quite low though and these tournaments won't be enough to keep them in the top 50 without getting some good results elsewhere. Who's running the WGCs these days? I haven't heard any talk if they will allow these guys are not.
Wow, what a weird defection by Pat Perez to the tour as he was one of the more outspoken PGA members to come out and blast the tour and question the reasons for going. Apparently his wife announced it on instagram and had to block over 300 accounts from people responding.
