eff do I love this show and universe . all the spying and division within the same family is a little silly to say the least but I'm so entertained that it's water under the bridge . bring on the carnage ! I'm really enjoying olivia cooke's performance .. looks like she took the show off of paddy's back this episode

Although it seems silly, it's not totally unrealistic either. There were multiple times in England alone where you had different branches of the royal families competing for the throne with many potential heirs killed within periods of instability that lasted decades.
Viserys being unable to create a male heir led to a power vacuum, and you had everyone doing their best to create their own heirs.
Once we get another jump forward and all the children become power hungry adults, I think the show will get a lot more interesting.
At this stage I don't see them killing off too many before the next big jump ahead.

its not really the factions within the family being unrealistic . I'd say it is very realistic (if it is like any family dealing with an inheritance etc).. I think Otto laying the frame work to put aegon on the throne well ahead and having a network within the keep all outside of alicents knowledge was the silly part
edit : oh it was the white worm with the network of spies that larys was alluding to

Yup, and nothing of value would have been lost. All the characters up there are uninteresting. If I never saw them again, the show would be better for it. They could have done something grand.

I've seen families that I thought were pretty normal go bat #### crazy over inheritance so you can just imagine in those days what would happen if a seat on the throne was up for grabs.

I didn't have any problem with the meeting other than Otto saying that the doors remain closed until they're done and then some dude leaves five minutes after.
The Search for Aegon (no, the other one) was insipid. And the last scene was especially stupid.

speaking of Otto and doors, why was he so concerned about the doors of the superdome when the dragon showed up? was he trying to make sure people could get out (why was the city watch trying to close them anyways)? did he want to make sure Rhaenys had a clean way to exit without doing more property damage?
did the dragon bust through the ceiling, or out of the floor? that's probably several feet of stone either way. if that's how they're establishing it, dragons are strong and should not be easily downed by stupid stuff like big arrows.

Yes, my take was he wanted it open so the people could escape. And you can see that Princess Rhaenys took notice of him yelling this, which perhaps contributed to her to showing mercy?
A question I have-
why was there a race to find Aegon first? Was it because Otto wanted to have him killed, making way for either the younger brother or Alicent to be put on the iron throne? Or was it because whoever got Aegon first would then be able to influence him on how to proceed with Rhaenyra? I am guessing the latter, but the first is an intriguing thought. Viserys' final words were for Alicent herself to save the kingdom, not Aegon or the other son.

yes, Otto's plan was to advise Aegon to have all the rivals killed, and Alicent disagreed. like the Ringer article I still thought it was kind of lame since it's not like the first person who talks to him gets their advice locked in automatically. but I guess it was an opportunity to introduce us to discount Varys, aka woman who talks funny.

Viserys mumbled something about Aegon specifically. it's still weird that she took it as her life mission so quickly, since it seems like common knowledge from the very top on down that Aegon would be a crap king. if he spends all his time in Flea Bottom doing depraved things, I would have assumed that all the common folk would know about that as well and would feel weird cheering for him at the coronation.

Viserys did mumble something about Aegon and the Song of Ice and Fire and the Prince that was promised, but then went on to say "it is you" and "you are the one" to Alicent. This, combined with Rhaenys remarks to Alicent about her being on the iron throne, has me thinking the battle for the throne won't be between Rhaenyra and one of the sons with Alicent as a proxy, but directly between Rhaenyra and Alicent. Obviously this means the two sons need to be out of the picture. I think it is easy to see Aegon being taken care of very soon, but Aemond is too good of a villain to be taken out of the show. I can see the potential though for an additional power struggle happening between Alicent and Aemond.

aegon had power thirsty eyes at the end there . any chance we see the next coming of joffrey ? we know he's incompetent and his mother has great difficulty controlling him . a lot of parallels there to the lannisters . aside from assaulting servant girls we don't know if he has that same level of cruelty

It is implied that he knowingly has his bastard children fight in those kid pits, so yeah I assume he is on Joffery level of cruelty.
In contrast, Robert Baratheon sired a bunch of bastard children but he tried to ensure they had some measure of decent life.

My issue with that was how old is Aegon? 20ish? Does that mean he planned on having kids when he was 13 just so they could fight in the pits 7 years later?
Maybe he just happened to start having bastard children at 13-14 and then decided it would be a great idea if they fought in the pits.

I doubt he was fathering children just to put in the pits, but most likely if he knocked up a girl, he didn't care what happened to them and found the pits as an entertaining way to deal with them.

that is true . a lot of signs pointing toward a cruel king
at least we know the source of aegons destructive side .. lack of approval or love from his father .. whereas joffrey was a monster formed in muck and incest

If they wanted to completely destroy the purpose of the show, which is to build up to the Dance of the Dragons event from the books, then yeah they could've gone scorched earth and killed all of them up there. But they need to make a show and to make money so 'doing something grand' would effectively end that.
