Would much rather it be Jake McCabe to help shore up the LH D-man but Edler works too.
I'm okay with going 3 years if it keeps the AAV below $3M.

Free agency hasn't even started yet and at most we will probably only have 13 players from last year's opening night roster on this year's opening night roster.
This team just needs more good players, whether that happens via trade, UFA, or by promoting draft picks it doesn't really matter.

Man, I would love a situation where we are able to acquire Zibby. He would be a safer bet than Eichel, but maybe doesn't quite push you into Elite-Elite territory.

You know...part of it is it's probably easier to convince somebody who's already played in Canada / played their whole career in Canada to come play in our market than it is to get somebody who's never played in Canada to make that jump.

Looking at the list of available, left-handed, UFA defencemen, there are four names that jump off the board to me as available, as affordable and as not having said they would like to stay in the U.S.A.: Ryan Murray, Jake McCabe, Brendan Smith and Alex Edler.
It might just be that Edler is the defenceman the Flames can get. I don't really mind Edler, as I think he might come cheap, and I think he's a pretty solid defenceman, as I posted above.

We desperately need a defensemen to run the power play. Is Tree fine with a Hanifin/Andersson combo? I don't see a whole lot available on the UFA market.

Edler has fallen off a huge cliff this past season, if he gets anything other than a 1 year contract from a team, it's going to be a mistake.
