So after having the night to reflect, I am wondering if the fact he got injured is inflating how 'dangerous' it was as a hit.
I went back and watch the MT on Kassian hit everyone loved
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g11MBII7GLY
I think you could argue MT took more violent/aggressive strides right before he hits Kassian AND that it is even more blindside then the hit last night - MT is coming from the middle/board side while Scheifele was coming straight downhill at the player.
If Jake Evans just pops right up like Kassian does and probably taunts Scheifele as he just put the icing on the game with the goal is anyone talking about anything other then what a great series this will be?
No excuse for Scheifele - It was a chicken SH## play and he has to be accountable for the result of the action and can't put players in that situation - But looking back on the MT hit... are we being hypocritical ?

Not sure how you could compare the Tkachuk hit. Matthew doesn't even put his shoulder into it and took maybe five strides. Scheifele was coming in full speed and launched himself into him.

Well 5 strides is a charge - And I would argue those 5 strides were as aggresive, if not more, then Scheifele.
And it was more blindside - Hes coming from the board side while Scheifele was coming right down the middle.
Just saying - If we reverse the outcome of the two hits - Kassian injured and Evans fine - Is the MT hit the predatory one vs an amazing hit and Scheifele setting the tone for the rest of the playoffs.

I just watched the Tkachuk hit and it is not even close. Schiefele is coming down the ice full speed where Tkachuk basically is at a stand still and slowly takes 3-5 strides prior to hitting Kassian.
I don’t agree with your point at all.

It’s critically important for players to look out for their own safety at all times. You need to be aware every millisecond where guys are, and be prepared for impact. For your own protection.
Doesn’t change the fact that Schiefele appeared to have one goal in mind, and succeeded. That’s what makes this play different.

He received a major for the hit, that alone is telling of hit.
I expect he will get an in person hearing, and will be suspended.

Not announced as an "in person" hearing, so any suspension will be a maximum of 5 games.

Doubt it. Media picked up on Wilson in NY! And he got nothing.

I'd say both are very dirty and the only reason Kassian doesn't end up badly injured is because he's bigger than Tkachuk.

Do they still bring players in with covid going on? I thought a Zoom meeting would be fine considering the situation.

This also applies to Scheifele who tracked Evans the length of the ice, without obfuscation or sudden change in direction, with the only intent of delivering a reckless hit.
Funny that as I type this sitting in a business in Winnipeg doing some server maintenance and the office "bros" are even talking about how "reckless and stupid" the hit was and how "Scheif shouldn't have ran the guy".
And no, I am not at all a Jets fan I just happen to live in Jetsville.

I find it weird that people say players need to be aware every second they are on the ice.
This isn't true and has never been true. No player is even close to fully aware at all times. They don't expect to get destroyed at any time while on the ice. And yet somehow this false premise has persisted for years. That's just not how hockey does work and it isn't how it should work. I think it is just an excuse to blame the victim.

Uhhhh it’s absolutely the case. Skating around daydreaming is how you collide with a teammate and both get injured.
Again, doesn’t even apply as the main factor in this case. Predatory hit.

I think the big difference was Kassian doesn’t have a brain to concuss

Even before COVID, it is extremely rare for a player to actually be in-person for an "in-person" hearing.
What's important is the classification of the hearing as either "in-person" or not. A hearing that is classified as "in-person" (whether the player actually goes to New York or not) means the player can be suspended for more than 5 games.
