This is not a local story anymore. They are going to be asked about it no matter where they play.
Well we know he is not content here, because he wants to go somewhere else....so how can he not be malcontent?
I am not saying he will be raising hell in practice or moping about the locker room. I am saying media, everywhere, wont let this go until its resolved one way or the other.

Will other media even care? It’s not like he is a top 6 forward that the flames are dependent on. How much national media stir did Frolik garner when his agent came out and said he wanted a trade? When Frolik first asked for a trade he was a much better player than Bennett.

Well....being it was "other" media that broke the story and it was enough of a story that Friedman verified it through the day yesterday....what do you think?
Frolik is a 3rd line grinder who is 31 years old. (And yes the national media was all over it at the time because of the tweet that Walsh sent)
Bennett is 24 and a former 4th overall in a fairly recent draft.

IMO, Leivo and Simon could not be more "meh" thus far this season.

Could Bennett be more disciplined? Sure. But given his tenacious playing style, penalties are going to happen no matter what. Tkachuk takes a ton of dumb penalties, too, but he doesn't get benched or buried on the fourth line immediately after taking one. Bennett on the other hand is on such a short leash it is no wonder he plays like he's squeezing the stick so tight knowing that the next mistake is going to bury him with the coaches.
Not saying Bennett hasn't had a hand in his own fate, too. But there's clear favoritism with this team and Bennett is on the wrong end of it.

I have no idea what a return for Bennett would look like right now. But it kinda makes sense to trade him before the expansion draft because the Flames have 8 forwards they would like to protect. If they could get a 2nd or 3rd round pick or a pretty good prospect who doesn’t need to be protected, maybe it makes sense?

Frolik media stir lasted about a week. News flash Bennett is also a 3rd line grinder that can’t produce squat during regular season . I highly doubt in a week that the media even cares about this story.
I will say that he deserves to be ahead of Leivo and Simon. More as default because those 2 should be 4th line players.

Had to know this was coming and I am disappointed we didn’t trade Benny this offseason when he likely had a boost in value. If the team knew they were moving Lindholm to center then there would be no room for Bennett unless he was on the 4th line.
The guy has shown flashes and hasn’t put it together so a fresh start somewhere else is logical and frankly I am surprised this didn’t come years ago.
Reading HF it sure seems like a lot of fans want him on their team so while he doesn’t put up points he brings an element fans want.
Lots of Virtanen or Puljujarvi suggestions. Jost is a name I saw that would be intriguing, Zacha.

Showcasing is an urban myth. Scouts know what Bennett is, one night of power play time or moving up to the first line one day isn’t going to change his value.

If we're going to be this pedantic, a GM isn't "carrying a guy" unless his head coach is burying him in the lineup.

If only Bennett could play a top 6 RW role. He is the 4th best centre at best when Lindholm is playing centre and 3rd best LW.
Flames need a legit RW so badly.

To those bringing up a Virtanen swap. This organization should (hopefully) not want any part of him.
I've known quite a few people who are close with the Virtanen family. He's not the type of person you'd want to be a part of your favorite hockey team.

Coaches play who they trust and who they think gives them the best chance of winning
So if that’s favouritism I agree
But several coaches have decided that on most nights they don’t think Sam is amongst the top forwards
Ain’t no bias. Just reality

Shocking.
Bennett clearly not happy about being rewarded to pivot the 4th line to start the year. Has been mopy on the ice other than a period or so vs wpg.
I also get the feeling backlund isn't thrilled with his role or having Bennett as a linemate. I don't think that the 2 have completed more than 5 clean passes to one another in the offensive zone in all the time they have played together so far this season.
Really hope that they trade him out of here. Also hope he finds his game and is just another strike on our gm/management team.

I hope he does well elsewhere too because he seems like a good guy
I find it odd that you would hope for him to succeed as another strike against our gm. But I guess your dislike runs that deep

I was thinking about A.Nylander too. Hes on the shelf for the year and would give the Flames a lot of flexibility to do something else in the mean time.
Jost, Poolparty, McLeod, Kase?, even Colin White would do.
If you could build a package with Bennett for Ravello, that'd be cool.
I just hope if it isn't a pick, they try for a decent RHS RW.

Watch him be traded for Mete as its pretty convenient so far as covid trades go.

I'd rather keep him. Who does Mete take out on the Flames?

Agreed. Leivo and Simon totally humdrum. And STILL preferred over Bennett. That's how bad Bennett is, no narrative about favoritism needed. You think the Flames want Bennett to fail? God no. And other players, like Andersson, given a little opportunity, show that they are really capable - Raz in his early outings on the bottom D showed, for example, that he's extremely capable, gifted even, at holding the puck in on the blue line. So suddenly, he's on the powerplay, cuz that's a big deal. Show something, get rewarded. It's that simple.

Seattle could actually be a good fit for him. Likely no top end talent so he could try to carve out a role on one of three “second” lines, a la Vegas in their first year. Might even get to play center, and no doubt will have a chip on his shoulder.
