I don’t see why Florida has any incentive to move Hoffman in the first place. Maybe if they had landed Panarin, but not now.

I think it is all the baggage that was the cause for him being traded away from Ottawa in the first place.

Really? Why not?
He seems to do a good job of driving play, contributing to puck possession, scoring goals and points, and the Flames could easily take on his cap hit if he was exchanged for Brodie. He's only signed for 1 more year like Brodie so there isn't a huge risk if things don't work you. Moreover, I think I remember him being able to play the off wing, and, if this is true, I think he'd do just fine lining up next to Backlund and Tkachuk. I'd even suggest Hoffman's shot would complement Tkachuk's playing ability nicely.
What makes you not like him?

One good thing about this Simmons rumour becoming public is that it provides a data point on the value of Brodie +Janko. If they are worth Kadri and Brown to the Leafs, then Treliving can point to that in his negotiations with others and ask for a similar package.

Sure, but the problem is now how many teams need a top 4 dman and have an extra top 6 forward to give up? I doubt the list is high. Toronto needed a top 4 dman on a cheap contract and had a top 6 player playing on the 3rd line.

lol, no. We don't want an idiot who chances are high could hurt the team by doing something stupid that gets him suspended during an important game. It's not that he's a bad player. He's a meathead who says he will change but never does.

Why should the Flames acquire players with on ice (Kadri) and off ice (Hoffman) baggages? SMH. They disrupt team chemistry. Being good on the ice ain't enough for me IMO.
Plus having Kadri is 'Wideman effect' all over again. I don't ever wanna go back at a time when the Flames had to kill penalties that weren't even supposed to be penalties.

Well apparently Treliving and Peters see him as adding value.

Wideman effect was because he took out a ref. The good far out way the bad when it comes to Kadri in my opinion. Flames are a soft team. Not only would he have brought grit to the team, he also would be playing in the top 6. This is why i don't care about Hathaway leaving. Its good and all to have grit on 4th line, but come crunch time i rather it on the top 6.

When he doesn't act like an idiot he does add value. But the fact that you don't know when he's going to lose his #### and do something stupid is why many don't want him.
We want a better team. We just want players who have their head screwed on straight and we can trust to not hurt the team when it really matters.

You'd think that after Kane became a Flame killer in San Jose, people would stop blowing "off ice" issues out of proportion.
So many were against acquiring Kane, but I for one would take a 30 goal scoring power forward on this team any day, no matter how immature he acts off the ice.
I'd also take a Kadri, or Hoffman in a heart beat, because as much as some say "personalities matter on and off the ice" in the end, production on the ice wins games.
The other thing is, you don't normally hear about players with bad attitudes on good teams. Normally the guys with "bad attitudes" are great players stuck in bad situations. Either bad teams, bad coaches, or poorly utilized.
When you have ultra competitive personalities stuck in crummy situations, it's not uncommon for them to act out. The Flames right now, offer a pretty darn good situation for competitive players, professionals thrive under that.
It's strange how come draft time, it's always 'BPA', but when it comes to guys 5-10 years older, it's about personality.
You know, those guys were the 'BPA's' because of their personalities right? Guys who want to win, often have strong personalities.

Kane does play well against the Flames. But he's not a $7m player at 56 points and not worth what he cost for the trade, and he wasn't a difference maker overall for the Sharks, especially in the POs.

How does Hoffman now have off ice issues? Lol
It was his girlfriend who supposedly did and even those claims were never proven in court. Actually it seemed quite the opposite.

Who would you suggest the Flames add that can add the same missing grit and intensity, and the same level of offense? Players like that are hard to come by.
I have also never heard anything about Kadri's teammates not liking him. And that matters more than what fans or players of opposing teams think.
Flames management targeted him, as did the team that owned the Flames in the playoffs. That has to say something about how he is viewed.
Many jerks have their name on the Cup. Jerks win championships.

Considering Kadri draws penalties at an incredible rate and his penalty differential is phenomenal, your "Wideman effect" point makes absolutely no sense

Look at how well he played post-Ottawa. It'd be a good gamble for sure. If it doesn't work out it was only for a year.

I would 100% take Hoffman. His 'off-ice issues' weren't even his, they were his fiances, and it was nothing more than "He said, she said" anyway. Nothing was proven, and incidentally, we haven't heard a single thing about any problems ever since he left Ottawa

50% retained of Barrie for a year is great, but that might be it. Whereas Toronto might have been bringing Brodie in long term. Of course they might still be able to sign him next summer, but he could also extend during the year, be it with the Flames or a new destination.

Leafs are likely looking to bring Barrie back next year. And he's a year younger than Brodie.
Muzzin is likely gone but I bet they try and keep Barrie. They need at least one RHD vet who is decent.
