Just finished watching the game.... what a season!

If you had told me after the last two years of utterly boring corsi hockey, the Flames would win the west, I would have laughed.

But like most, I'm really impressed (and excited) with the team. From Treliving, Peters, Gio, Johnny, down through Ryan, Hathaway and Andersson, everyone has contributed.

Really stoked to see what this team can do in the playoffs.

Go Flames Go!

When listening to pundits pontificate on the playoffs, I keep reading about how San Jose and Vegas are dangerous. Vegas is supposed to be the team to beat in the west. St Louis is a team "no one wants to face". San Jose was getting all kinds of adulation when they had won 7 straight, and Winnipeg and Nashville are top teams and still favorites despite recent struggles.

Calgary is leading the West by EIGHT points and have goal differential that's THIRTY goals better than second place Winnipeg.
Boston and Toronto apparently are the second and third best teams in the league and it's a shame they're facing each other in the first round.

Only 7 teams in the last ten years have had a better goal differential. That puts Calgary in the top 8 of 302 teams for goal differential (assuming it doesn't drop significantly in the last 3 games).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I haven't heard anyone talk about them as a favorite to win the West even, nevermind the Cup
the 'experts' don't think the flames style of hockey will carry over to the playoffs and that their goaltending is still questionable...

anyone following the flames can see that the goaltending, esp smith, have been a lot better and that the style they play can be successful, but there are clearly some matchups better than others... Teams like Dallas and Minnesota that want games to be slow slogfests are not great matchups... teams that actually skate and try to score are better teams for calgary to face

Wow just rematches Prout’s goal. What a pass by Mangispane. I don’t think he ever looked back to see him, just a tape to tape pass based on Prout yelling.

I just want to highlight how good defensively they’ve been lately. We know they have a dynamic offence, but the limited shots and chances they’ve been giving up could be the unsung part of their game heading into the payoffs. What did the Sharks have heading into the third last night, something like 11 shots on goal?

Very happy to watch this team and really proud for them. They worked hard and played for each other which bodes well for the playoffs.

Long time lurker - rare poster but I had to post today. While I haven't been able to watch many games, getting my Flames fill here at CP has been awesome this year. To all the regular posters - a huge thank you!. This year has been a blast following the Flames and it's been made better by having a forum like this.

Bring on the Playoffs!!!

I do remember. General consensus was they would go on a massive streak to end the season. They did in fact have a streak, it was just a losing streak.

So many fancy drinks for folks last night. I kept it simple.

District Brewing Wheat & Marzen Lagers
Great Western
O16

This complimented some BBQ burgers.

Great night!

I drank half a bottle of bad tequila, but I did it in their media guy's house so it tasted just fine. Hungover at the airport for life

Have spent a lot of time on highways recently, mostly listening to NHL radio on Sirius. Despite the (supposedly) Canadian content there, most of the talking heads barely mention the Flames. Most were wagging the Sharks a few weeks back to take the West (wonder what they're thinking now?) and Vegas to be the team to beat. I find it all kind of amusing, and would be happy to be the dark horse in the race.

And, of course, Burns for the Norris and either Trotz or Cooper for the Jack (or maybe Tocchet if Ari makes it; no mention of Gio or Peters).

Haven't been driving for a bit - too much tax crap to do - but look forward to my next driving which will afford me the opportunity to see if the convo has changed!

Oh ... 20 year-old Tawny Port for me....
