So I just finished watching Bumblebee.

This. THIS is the Transformers movie that Original Series fans have wanted and hoped we were getting, when Transformers first came to the big screen (since the animated movie, of course).

An especial nod to the first 10 minutes or so. Awesome nostalgia there

We watched the Spiderverse movie last week. The trailers were impressive, but I was worried that the movie wouldn't live up to the trailers.

It was an unfounded worry. The move was incredible. About 10 minutes in, I thought "even if the story ends up being terrible, this movie is a real joy to watch" - the visual style is so impressive and fresh. And the story was terrific, as were the characters, the humor, the villain...by the end, I was blown away. Would love to see more made like this.

Also, great after credits scene, too.

The Predator was somehow worse than the terrible reviews led me to believe. It started off alright and then to say it was disjointed is putting it nicely. The tone was that of a buddy cop film, the CGI was Syfy level at parts, and the final act was so bad I went from thinking “this is ok it’s not so bad” to “Warn. Everyone.”.

Shane Black has made some pretty great movies and this is not one. Not even campy bad simply the hottest of garbage.

Ugh. My wife is in love with Jason Momoa and I've agreed to take her to this seeing some reviews were positive.

Yah went with my wife. She seemed to think it was entertaining but not “good”. I thought it was awful. Better than suicide squad though so I guess there is that.

Went to see Vice yesterday and it was outstanding. It's both funny and terrifying at the same time, with some brilliant satire, clever 4th wall breaks, and top notch acting from the entire cast, particularly Christian Bale and Amy Adams. Steve Carell is also pretty great. Highly recommended, especially if you enjoyed Adam McKay's previous film, The Big Short.

Also, make sure to stay past the credits.

Is Vice a good movie if you aren’t a republican hating Canadian? The previews haven’t convinced me of that. It’s going to slay in Hollywood for obvious reasons but seems like a wait for Netflix/free movie to me.

Really disappointed in the “Sisters Brothers” adaptation. The movie, in the absurd context from the book makes very little sense, and it’s too bad because the acting was really on point. The parts of the story they took out of the book just didn’t really form a cohesive story. I would recommend the book, it’s a great, easy read. The movie was unfortunately not what it could have been.

I just watched the movie and though I didn't read the book, there wasn't a coherent story being told as to what was the backstory and what was the motivation. Weird. As for the acting, I thought the first 20 minutes or so was VERY amateur withe the way the lines were delivered by John C Reilly and of all people, Joaquin Phoenix. It was like they didn't have time to understand the context of their lines, so they just delivered it as though they were reading it. After that the lines were delivered fine, but that stood out to me at the start. Jake Gyllenhaal acted really well. And finally a movie set in that time that actually didn't make the actors clean (with actual dirty brown teeth and all). Odd story, which makes me wonder what got cut on the editing floor after there was probably an original screening which made more sense though made the movie longer. Just a guess though.

Saw The Mule. Clint Eastwood movie. Very different from what the trailer made it out to be. Not suspenseful or a thriller at all. I enjoyed it though.

Lucky. Harry Dean Stanton plays an old guy coming to terms with getting old and dying. Also thought it was enjoyable.

The Big Sick. Charming, funny. Quite good. Cant believe I didn’t watch this one sooner. Semi autobiographical story of the Pakistani guy from Silicon Valley, his traditional parents and dating a white girl.

They really needed to have picked a plot line from the book and followed it through. The things that they put in the movie look like a mess of mixed up plot points - the toothbrush, the horse, the Commodore, the gold formula. It’s really a shame, because it is such a good book and should have been an easy story to tell on the big screen.

In the absence of the book I can’t imagine how somebody would interpret what was going on or make sense of the motivations.

Vice, despite some great acting performances from everyone involved was an incoherent mess. The scattershot style that worked so well in The Big Short really falls flat. It's hard to find humour when they are cutting away making lite of very real incidents of war, torture, and terrorism.

Also despite Bale's great performance there is actually very little development of the character. No exploration of why he does what he does, his morals or ethics. He starts and ends the movie the exact same person save for a worse hair line and 50 pounds.

There are some halfhearted attempts to humanise Cheney but they are over run with unnecessary 4th wall breaking distractions. Sam Rockwell as Bush was awesome though.

Not worth a viewing in theatres. 5.5/10.

Not very good at all. Definitely a 'wait for Netflix' film.

The Favourite was a good time, dark humour with a bit of bleakness. Similar tone to the Lobster, maybe a bit faster paced. Really liked the closing scene. 8/10

Fully agree, if you’re a fan of Lanthimos’ other work you’ll love The Favourite

Short was much better than Spotlight. I liked them both but one was a masterpiece and the other was just a really great movie.

I loved both The Big Short and Spotlight. But to me Spotlight winning was the right call. A much more impactful topic and I walked out of that movie angrier than The Big Short.
