Where the parking lots north of the Saddledome currently are. Between 12th and 14th Avenues and 4th and 5th Streets.

This is the key thing - indoor escalators *may* work ok (although maintenance costs are high), but outdoor escalators in Calgary are a huge mistake. They get jammed up with snow, ice and gravel; they’d be broken down most of the time anyway, so you might as well save yourself the trouble and use stairs.

MSG seems similar to the inverted bowl.

Funny, because both buildings are by the same Architect; DIALOG, but does have influence from a design Architect...Snohetta for example on NCL, not sure who was for Rogers Arena.

Probably client driven direction on the aesthetic.

Across the street from cowboys and the arriva tower. The area plan is coming together very nicely.

The design details of the arena itself look a little forgettable at the moment (but then again it looks somewhat preliminary), but the idea of it being more human-scaled and integrated into the community is excellent. The age of the arena being a giant monolith is hopefully behind us.
I'm less sold on the inverted bowl idea.

Not really influenced design, the design IS by the design Architect. 360 Architecture designed Rogers Place in Edmonton.

Bunk was referring to the wood soffit on the library and on the Calgary Event Center not Rogers.

Disagree, that area of town could use something a little bolder. This isn’t some culturally rich, old neighbourhood that you to preserve some character and keeping it ultra low key. It’s less then a half a decade removed from being empty parking lots and abandoned light industrial buildings from the 50s or earlier, where the back alleys where the most popular places with drug users and hookers for the last 3 decades. Now it’s Vancouver style glass condos and chain but don’t call them chain coffee shops in the lower levels.
Doesn’t have to be something off the wall, but it should look like an arena and a civic centerpiece, not a wing of a modern rec center.
Also, always hoped the Honeycombs would play Calgary, and if these renderings are true, wont be long now. Just need someone to pay for it.

If the Victoria Park option is back on, it means CSEC blinked and the west-end CalgaryNext is dead? So they're not getting the Katz deal?

Notice how all the people in the renderings are wearing retro jerseys and shirts.

CalgaryNext has been dead for years. They've only been talking about Victoria Park for a long time.

I hope the inverted bowl concept is a go. Really a unique design for the building. Match it up with the wood/timber esthetic suggested by some, the building could become an impressive show piece. Would really be nice to see something completely different than the urinal up in Shelbyville. Come on Calgary, get er done!
