Very good presentation as well.
Thanks for sharing the story. Great read and quite appalling, what the author is accusing the police and judges of.

I think because the accusations are that law enforcement got rid of evidence that pointed to a white man as the murderer and crafted a story to send a black man to death row.

Those pesky officers! If they aren't discarding evidence..they are planting gloves!

California is generally progressive but there are many pockets of conservatism in California. Remember Devin Nunes represents the Fresno area. Anne Marie Schubert, prior to being plastered on TV for her role in capturing the Golden State Killer, has failed to investigate the police for the shooting of Stephon Clark. She is a registered Republican.

Law Enforcement Groups Gave $420,000 to DA Deciding Whether to Bring Charges Against Cops Who Killed Stephon Clark

https://theintercept.com/2018/04/25/...rict-attorney/

Quote:
SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA, HAS been all over the news for the past month, since police shot and killed an unarmed black man, 22-year-old Stephon Clark, in the backyard of his own home on March 18. An independent autopsy conducted at the family’s request showed that Clark was shot six times in the back, according to the Los Angeles Times. As protests over the death raged, activists, both locally and around the country, called for the district attorney there, Anne Marie Schubert, to file charges, or even just make a strong statement on the case. Yet she remained silent.

All the while, Schubert’s political campaigns have benefitted from the largesse of law enforcement unions and associations. According to an analysis by The Intercept, about one-third of the contributions she received across her two campaigns to be Sacramento County’s district attorney — one of which is currently ongoing — came from law enforcement sources or those close to law enforcement.

The lawyer who went on the racist rant last week in a NYC restaurant has issued an apology. This has been identified as his twitter account by a few major news outlets:

https://twitter.com/user/status/998957026008096768

Whether it is a legitimate apology or because his clients are dropping him, you can decide.

Sorry man, you don't get to decide if you're a racist or not. It's like being a jerk. People observe your words and actions and then let you know if you're a jerk. Ditto with racism. Your thoughts, feelings, or rationale for your behavior don't matter at all.

You did and said racist things, ergo you are a racist.

The video of Sterling Brown's tasing has been released. Geez, there were six cops standing around him and not one thought to attempt defuse the situation.

Milwaukee Police Release Video Of Bucks' Sterling Brown Being Tackled And Tased For No Reason

The Bucks has also issued a statement, one that stands up for their teammate, unlike the cowardly statement issued by the NFL on the same day.

Not sure if it belongs here, but this kind of thing is overdoing it in the name of political correctness. It seems like it's one step removed from removing offensive terms from works of literature.

Why the Art Gallery of Ontario removed 'Indian' from the name of this Emily Carr painting - http://www.cbc.ca/radio/asithappens/...ting-1.4672934

If I could delete the absolutely disgusting and all too common police behavior, I would be fine with one short taze burst for parking horizontally across two handicapped spots. C'mon Man.

Glad I wasn’t the only one finding this poor form. I hate to be ‘slippery slope’ and all, but censoring art is a really bad move.

Video shows truly how power hungry that group of police officers were. The world really sucks sometimes.

Who named the painting to begin with? For some reason, I feel like if it was the artist, Emily Carr, it should stay, if a gallery or art dealer way back when just flippantly named it “Indian Church”, for lack of a better name then maybe it’s okay to change it.

The artist did name it according to the article. I dunno...if you can rename a bridge you can rename a painting I guess. Carr might actually appreciate it...posthumously of course.

Yeah, I suppose she would be okay with it. A lot of those paintings by her and Group of Seven artists seemed to have very succinct titles using the language of the day.

I saw another Carr painting once titled First Nations War Canoes in Alert Bay at the Audain museum in Whistler. I guess they added the First Nations to what was probably Indian War Canoes at one point.

Might as well touch up a few brush strokes while they're at it.

Altering a term in the name =/= changing the actual art

It’s as trivial as it seems.

Should we take the word N****** out of Two Kill a Mockingbird?

Was the title integral to the art? I don't think it was in this case but it isn't confederate statues where these titles were designed to offend.

It's so weird that our purity/contamination instincts extend to language.
