Cap'n Backlund will play for Gold tomorrow at 12:15pm MT.

Gaudreau and the Americans will play for Bronze at 7:45am MT.

Gaudreau can't be suspended from NHL games can he? Cuz that definitely deserves a suspension

Backlund named one of Sweden's 3 best players.

I don't disagree with the whole return to the gym thing, but I think Johnny needs a mental break from everything hockey related. I mean this season was a massive disappointment for the Flames and Johnny seemed to take it somewhat personally, then he goes to the Worlds and it becomes the SOS.

He needs to find a way to put this whole season behind him.

Paraphrasing Darryl Sutter: the best response to a cheapshot is a crosscheck to the teeth.
If Gaudreau though he took a cheapshot, then good on him to respond. I like it, especially in a nothing tournament

That wasn't a tough response though. It was a selfish, frustrated, dumb penalty when his team was still in it. After that it was game over.

I love the idea of pinpointing a moment in a 6-0 sound thrashing and hanging the game on that.

It was 2-0

They score on that PP and then 11 seconds after to make it 4-0.
Down 2-0 in the 2nd is possible to come back from.

Very much a moment that changed the game.

Did you watch this game? The whole thing turned in the space of a couple of minutes...

Backlund creates a SHG on a breakaway, Gaudreau takes a terrible penalty and Sweden scores again, and then again after the puck drop. That all took place in three minutes, and at the time of Gaudreau's penalty it was 2–0 with Team USA dominating the play.

Sure did. It was an event in a game that the US was at best dominating Gulutzan style and pissed away.

It is an elimination game. Not a regular season NHL game. If you give up the third goal halfway through the game, you can’t give up the next one.

He took away the chance for his team to come back
Incredibly dumb and selfish penalty

Oh, yes, it was definitely dumb. And selfish. And made the hill a bit higher. Did not take away the chance to win though.

Lots of time to score, especially in an elimination game. 3-0 in the second doesn’t mean you have to throw in the towel.

Why just ask Boston... if it is a game 7 and you are playing Toronto, how many goals should you score in the 3rd?

That was a very dumb and selfish penalty. They were losing 2 to zero when he took it so hard to say it cost them the game.

Luckily we have not seen anything like it with him playing for the Flames.

No more than you could be disciplined at work for something you did in your off time.

We have seen him really lazy on the back check, but luckily it was just in meaningless games.

Although that is pretty selfish too when you have a competitive hothead goalie

Well that can certainly happen.

But he is not getting suspended by the NHL for that. He could have an IIHF suspension I imagine.

My take on Johnny. He can be absolutely electric. However, he likes to win more than he hates to lose....and therein lies the issue. He is one of a few players that has not had to change his game from his dominating junior levels. The point is he dominates at the highest level with a very incomplete game. He is poor on breakaways, has a poor one timer, a below average shot, weak backhand, and he is suspect defensively yet he still dominates. It is scary how good he can be with a bit of fine tuning.

I don't think Jagr tells too many players that the could challenge for the scoring title every year. We need to find him a scoring winger this year to take advantage of his pla asking magic. At the same time, Johnny needs to add new dimensions to his game so he is harder to cover.
