This 100%.
The sites that I frequented prior to CP were far harsher than anything I've seen here. For a community of this size to have as much productive threads as it has in the variety of different categories is bloody amazing.

Having to put not-safe-for-work GIFS (as deemed by the moderators) in NSFW tags, and now revealing how often a poster reported posts, after he freely discussed reporting posts, is what the commotion is about?
Some of you guys need to take a look around and realize how petty your complaints are, and in turn realize how awesome we have it on this forum.

Nothing personal but this makes me think some here take this discussion forum too seriously. Does anyone really care how many times a person reported a post? I know I don't and would think many here would say the same thing.

I appreciate the support -- I really do. It probably was unprofessional, but it doesn't bother me. I know my reports are valid. For someone who only reported twice -- despite entire threads that I have made with dozens of posts ganging up on me -- it takes a lousy post made towards someone else for me to report it.
I think I made a report on someone calling Bob Hartley a racist or something. That's the only one I remember. It was libelous in the worst way. I don't recall the other one.

I've noticed that too.
Except for the E=NG thread, I don't often go to the FOI section as I mostly lurk in the Off Topic forums, but when I do check the odd thread, I notice that people pile on guys like Calgaryblood or previously, The Scorpion. It's always some unwarranted attack on them and Calgaryblood would just brush it off.
How sad has things have become that people like Calgaryblood has been so accustomed to being attacked that he needs to tolerate it and continue with the real discussion. Have moderators just given up on stopping this?
There seems to be this mob mentality for ganging up on a guy that a few don't like and this has gone on for years as Mods haven't corrected it. If not Calgaryblood, there'll be someone else that people would want to bully. As an outsider from whatever people have against calgaryblood, it's just cringeworthy to witness. It's like watching that smaller kid on the playground constantly getting pushed to the ground by the "cool kids" every recess. The bullying behavior on CP needs to stop.

Usually moderators are the most active members. That's how it is on HF boards anyways. The admins and mod supervisors only select people who are regularly posting, and people are asked to resign if they're not an active mod.
It's not a hard job IMO. I did it for years elsewhere, in forums just as active. And I resigned when I was burnt out, so that a more ambitious and worthy member can do what I felt I didn't live up to.

I don’t think hf is something we are trying to model. I mean that sincerely.
But as a group we are pretty active members. Some more than others but overall pretty active

Sometimes a poster being singled out for multiple criticisms isn't bullying, but the recognition that the person is a terrible poster, who contributes only noise, by multiple people independently. People become annoyed by a particularly obtuse post, and reply to it without going further into the thread and seeing that it is already addressed by others. Then the original poster doubles down on their bafflegab, usually being the type that is more interested in talking that listening, and the process repeats.
Internet bullying certainly exists, but I fail to see how one can be bullied effectively when each of us is anonymous to a great degree. Further, certain users that return under different names and have each new account become the target of "bullying" should look at their own actions first, last, and always. I suppose you could call that victim-blaming, but first you have to believe that people not agreeing with you and thinking you're not too clever because of what you write, and how you present yourself, makes you a victim.

Problem there is we don't have definative proof that a certain poster has returned under a different user name. Due to that some posters get targeted unfairly.

You might dismiss it, but what you just described there are justifications of a typical Bully.
Have you ever asked a bully why he bullies a certain kid and what it would take for them to stop? Usually the response is that they don't know what they're doing is considered bullying and if they actually do acknowledge it, the answer is typically because the kid is doing or saying something that they/most don't agree with and they'll stop picking on the kid if the kid stops
If you think a poster is terrible and is only contributing noise, then make use of the ignore feature. Can't ignore the responses others have for that terrible poster? then they should make use of the ignore feature. Did that same "terrible" poster come back under a different account? Again, use the ignore feature.
If not, try using tolerance. It's really that simple

But if you just ignore someone who has already been criticized for making a comment you disagree with, you won't get to enjoy the virtual high-fives and satisfaction of being the 5th or the 9th or the 14th person to join in the fun.
