Dube had a really good night.

Jankowski was Jankowski.

Kylington made some really nice plays and some real Kylington ones as well - if he ever figures out how to manage the puck, he's going to be a star.

Valimaki didn't look quite ready. Let him go be a kid for a year.

Eject Brouwer into the sun, hire Djanko. Sign the Czech.

Nice that Brodie potted one, but he needs to pick up his overall game big time.

Outside of Smith not being ready to go that wasn't too bad.

Hamilton, Gaudreau, Jankowski, Dube all looked pretty good.

For the first game action of the year there were some positives for sure. Can't say the same about the game up north, but hopefully once they ditch the split squads the team can hit the ground running.

Its the first game of preseason man. Everybody is going to need to pick their game up. Some extreme statements based on the first game of the year.

Jankowski is the real deal. Took a while but I think he's going to be a stud.

If they call the regular season games this close, it will be annoying but will probably mean more scoring like the league wants.

If Smith turns into Elliott 2.0 I'm going to be pissed. Why can't we get some reasonable goaltending?

If they are going to zero in on slashing and keep it consistent to start the year Johnny is going to generate so many power plays.

The reality is that it's probably going to have to come from homegrown talent

Hopefully it's the opposite. Wasn't Elliott a brickwall in the preseason?

Too soon.

He looked poor today but it was the first game action of the year.

Elliot looked good to start the pre-season last year so there's that.

Some of the comments early in the thread about Smith (that Cleetus looking guy) were outright embarrassing.

He deserves some time before the pitch forks come out.

Agreed. I don't think he'll be an all-star type by any means, but he has the makings of a really steady and reliable NHLer that will make a team better.

Hopefully the coaches rip these guys hard. These kinds of efforts are inexcusable from vets in meaningless preseason games.

I'm going to lose as much sleep over this as I did when they lost in Pentiction... which is zero.

I sense the sarcasm, but pretty tough for the coaching staff to justify making cuts when the vets were making such big mistakes

Hopefully tonight's showing allows the coaches to really press the group that much better is needed and there isn't a lot if time to settle and figure it out.

he is a 30 something tender whose best years are almost certainly behind him. Only those here with their homer glasses on actually think or thought Mike Smith is taking this franchise anywhere further than it has been in the last decade. He is a stop gap measure to buy time for something else to arise.
