I am thinking Duchene for Hanifin..
Carolina already has a young and strong defense.
Aho-Duchene-Skinner
Lindholm-Staal-Tervainen
That is a solid top 6

The only way I see the depth on that side being adequate is if Tkachuk slides over to the RW position on the top line and Bennett returns to the LW on the Backlund line.
This is something I don't see the Flames willing to do based on last season which leaves the RW side woefully inept from a pure scoring perspective.

I agree that we can do without but it would be nice to have a James Neal type of player there.
Brouwer, Stajan, and Bouma make ~$10 mil... it would be a lot easier if they weren't around and I don't mind Stajan.
|
Jankowski's a centre. IMO the Gaudreau line can be very effective with either Ferland or Tkachuk there. We've got the answers up front mostly in house IMO

Hanifin is the only player who I've heard that gets me to seriously think about bennett. Dude is for real.

Pittsburgh traded 3 out of their last 4 first round draft picks and came out with two Stanley Cups in a row.
The best players on this team are still young, while expecting guys like Jankowski, Kulak, Andersson, etc to be ready this season or next. We have a good window now to use picks to round out the roster. It gives us plenty of time to restock for when guys like Gio need replacing.

Yup. Would probably do that.
They want a top line player though.. so it would have to be someone established.

That's because Crosby and Malkin can turn AHL'ers into top 6 forwards. Monahan and Backlund can't.

Uhhhh Bouma scored more goals playing with Backlund than he ever did in junior.

Honestly based off everything I have read the Flames make the most sense. We are the only team in the west that is currently rumored to have submitted an offer. Hamonic also wants to play in Western Canada he has made that clear in the past. Lastly he not only fills a hole on the second pair, he brings a lot of the characteristics that the team both covets and lost when Engellend moved on.

Looks good on paper, but man-other than Staal, that's a tiny top 6. They won't be winning any board battles....

if everything else fails, send Conroy over there for "a quick chat". I'm sure he could not only talk Snow into trading Hamonic for scraps, but Snow would be excited about it too!

Yeah we do. I know you feel wingers are dime a dozen and defensemen are much more valuable and there's merit to that but the Penguins have won back to back Stanley Cups based on a deep forward group and very mediocre group of defensemen. There is 0.00001% chance a team will ever win a Stanley Cup with Ferland as your top line RW and based on him being nearly invisible against the Ducks I'm not sure you can win even a playoff series. You can move up Tkachuk but I don't know if he's a great fit for that line as he's not really a burner and neither is Monahan making the line a bit too plodding. Team really needs a scoring threat on the other side of Monahan to open up space for Gaudreau as I don't know if he's going to get back to where he was two seasons ago as long as teams can ignore the other winger on that line.

I find myself on the same page with your thoughts more often then not.. couldn't have said it better myself.
Not for a second do I believe we would't be a better team 10 out of 10 times right now if we had an elite shooting RW on that first like with Johnny and Sean. It's all that line is really missing, and to have that be a power forward RW like Jarome in his prime perhaps.. were talking a top 5 first line in the NHL.
I believe we need a TOP scoring RW as our #1 priority right now more than anything, and I hope we do something about it at the draft but based on the media rumblings about CGY wanting a #4 so bad.. I'm actually a little worried this go around with Treliving and I don't like that feeling
