Let's not even put his name in the same sentence as Gaudreau. The guy can't keep up with a player like Gaudreau, or have the same character as him. Why bother with such a hypothetical. Even if it were remotely possible I still wouldn't like him.

So is this legitimately personal or you hate him this like because..what? There have been players I really disliked on the Flames, Bertuzzi, Marchment, but Versteeg isn't a guy who is going to potentially embarrass your franchise like those two. It's a little odd to hate him this much.

Pleased with this signing and hadn't considered him a realistic possibility. A good, solid two-way addition to the wing depth of the Flames and at a great price. Certainly better than relying on Chiasson in a role similar. Fleecing the Oilers just adds to it!
Versteeg does rub some the wrong way with his antics - I mean he does refer to himself as "Verbeauty" in the third person - but I think it's mostly in good fun and he enjoys playing the jester role of sorts. He trained in Calgary in the off season a couple summers and is usually around enjoying Stampede to its fullest, so he's no stranger to Calgary. I guess you could say he's the stereotypical hockey player as portrayed in Letterkenny, but it's harmless fun.

Never been a huge fan of the guy, but a cheap low risk signing. Depth is never a bad thing especially on the right side where the flames are weak. From all accounts he looked pretty good in camp from what I heard from my oiler buddies.
Have only read bits and pieces of this thread, but any mention of his health? He missed the last few games with the oilers because he was injured. Is he good to go for tomorrow night? Haven't seen any news about it so I assume so, but maybe someone else has heard something.

Thanked just for the Letterkenny reference. I hope he goes bar-downsies a couple dozen times this season.

I liked Versteeg with Chicago but it sure seems like he has been unable to stick with teams very long. He always seemed like a decent player but one that could never live up to his contract. He comes cheap and I think he has the hockey chops to contribute on that top line. Monahan and Gaudreau will do the heavy lifting, Versteeg just needs to be in the right place at the right time.

I think his moving around has a lot to do with the situations.
Chicago is always against the cap and that's why he was moved out. As for the other teams, mostly teams out of the playoffs and/or pending UFA status (ie: FLA, TOR, PHI, CAR etc..).
The fact that he generates interest from teams like CHI and LA makes me feel pretty good about the Flames signing him for so cheap. If he was a player that was unmovable time after time, that would be another story.
He is a perfect fit for the Flames IMO, excellent complimentary player that can slide up and down the lineup. Also brings a lot of experience with him, which is never a bad thing.

Well no #### on the whipping boy part. He's over 25 and not drafted by this org. Those players are not popular around these parts. 2 weeks away from our first "I think Porier can bring what Versteeg brings" post, no matter how well he's playing.

3 cup champions on our roster... Versteeg, Brouwer, Frolik... all won em with the Hawks.
RW is now loaded with cup experience!

That's Pat Verbeek. He's long retired.

Better hope it's a relaxed locker room this year, because Versteeg is a huge weirdo.

Don't think so from the lineups we've been seeing.
