The Oilers fan next to me is saying Flames overpaid? Jealousy perhaps?

Wow! That's unreal!
It makes tonight a little less exciting, but who cares, when we walk away with a player like Hamilton, and only gave up picks!
Our D-core suddenly looks a lot better!

They must really like someone at 15.

mmmmm I am not dreaming:
Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Hearing the Bruins asked for good young players and picks from other teams for Hamilton. Good get for Calgary.

Quote:
The Calgary Flames announced today that they have acquired defenceman Dougie Hamilton from the Boston Bruins in exchange for Calgary’s 2015 first round pick (15th overall) and two second round picks (45th overall and 52nd overall – previously acquired from the Washington Capitals).
Hamilton, a native of Toronto, Ontario, was originally drafted in the first round (9th overall) in the 2011 NHL Draft by Boston. In 2014-15, the 22-year-old led all Bruins blueliners with 42 points (10G, 32A) in 72 games.

I just about passed out when i first heard it was Hamilton for Brodie and Johnny. It was a wtf instant moment of dispair.
The 15th and 2 seconds is a huge relief!
Would have liked a 15th and a second. Or a 15th and Backlund or a 15th Raymond and a second.
But this deal is fantastic gor the Flames either way.

Boston fans are irate.
This is surreal.
I never thought getting Hamilton would have been even remotely possible.
Treliving should run up there before Sweeney when they call for the 15th pick, grab the freaking mike, drop that ##### on the stage, and walk off.

BOS return marginally better than what they would get if Hamilton got an offer sheet. From CGY side, upgraded pics worth it. Got player.
|
The same thing Burke did with the Kessel trade, except this time the Flames know exactly which picks they're giving up -- so there's no chance the Bruins could get a Seguin or Hamilton (WHAT!?!?) this time around.

Sounds like Bruins were expecting a 1st, 2nd and 3rd for offer sheet compensation
|
With it broken down like this, I really think they didn't want the former GM stealing Hamilton away via offer sheet as was rumored, and likely planned by PC.
So, instead, Boston says screw you, we will trade said player to that former GM's new team bitter rival for a marginally better return.

Looking at it from the other side though, Boston just tore a big hole in their blue line by giving Hamilton up. With Chara injury prone and looking past his best(if last season was anything to go by), their defensive options look really weak. Are they accepting a poor campaign next season already?
I now watch with avid interest to see who they select at 15.

Gotta kick the tires on moving both Russell and Wideman after the year they had.
If the value is there...
