I still wouldn't trade the all flames assets for theirs (talking top to bottom, organizationally). Not even close. They still have A LOT of work to do to become competitive. Their bottom 6 Forwards, all their D and their goalies are expansion team equivalent and they have nothing in the system outside Nurse, Leon and now McDavid (nothing every other team doesn't have anyway)
In short, I don't believe they will fill in those gaps any time soon, not with the 3 stooges running things with their lengthy record of abject failure.
One more thing... May no iteration of E=NG get closed for any reason ever again. Please mods? Pretty pretty please????
I know it was partially because it was too big but y'all didn't want it a new one started too soon either for reasons that elude me... maybe the coilers made us feel feelings... I don't know... but please... don't let them up off the mat ever again.. even for one day. If you ever get the notion to do that again.. just read this thread.

Just interested what blogger/Healy-level dope would actually say such a thing. Eichel looks fantastic and Sabres fans should be happy (Even if their GM sounds like he needs a Prozac) but I honestly question this assertion.

In the end, Edmonton turns out like the Penguins and we turn out like the Blackhawks. Both good teams, but we all know which team wins more.

There seems to be a recurring theme up here. A frightening number of people genuinely believe this team with McDavid is capable of winning multiple Stanley Cups as soon as 2017. One season ticket holder I talked to was ready to order a McDavid jersey, calling it "unfathomable" for him not to report because, if he's patient, Edmonton is his highest chance of success of any team in the National Hockey League. Another STH said something similar, calling the Lindros situation completely irrelevant because of the "epic" history of the Edmonton Oilers. Lots of histrionics up here; fans seem happy to live in oblivion, quick to brush off the fact that the Coilers are an embarrassment to professional sports. Many are ready to completely disregard the ongoing trainwreck because wonder boy is on his way. Sad, really.
I wasn't here back then, but the implication is that these were the same kind of feelings fans had in '11 after RNH and '12 after Yak. Oddly enough, the most appropriate response I heard tonight was from a girl who was clearly nothing more than a casual fan, saying she was "cautiously optimistic". I should have tried to pick her up right then... she might be the only one with a brain in this town.

Yup. Despite the most embarrassing and incompetent management in sports, they win the lottery and suddenly Oiler fans are buying into the hype again.
For the 9th summer in a row.
Each year I call my Oiler friends on it. Each year they scoff and say never again. But each summer they clamp down on that lure again.
Truly astonishing. And embarrassing. And pathetic. And moronic. And predictable.

Edmonton has a new set of 3 prospects in Drasaitl, Nurse, McDavid. They are now extremely deep at center.
I hate to say it but McDavid is likely the piece that gets them out of the rebuild that keeps on going. Depends what they do this summer. They have 2 2nds, and another 1st to either add prospects or make trades to improve now.
This has easily been the worst season for Oiler fans to endure in quite sometime. They have been forced to watch the Flames blow past them in the rebuilding process but I do think tonight almost makes it all worth it.

I remember in Tavaras's draft year, he was pegged to be just as good or even better than Crosby as well. And while he is damn good (arguably one of the best forwards in the NHL) the NYI didn't really do jack #### until they solidified their D with Boychuk and Leddy... funny to say, but unfortunately, MacT or Lowe just aren't as good as Garth Snow.

The oilers are gonna hear it from the crowd in Buffalo come draft day. It's even gonna louder than when Bettman gets booed!
I secretly hope that the oilers management get pelted with stuff as they walk on the stage.

Read the thread. It's been said that it will be good for the rivalry or some such nonsense. Personally I'm at the point where I wish that Katz sells them to Seattle for the lulz.

almost a 90% chance they don't get the guy (the only team I really didn't want to get him) and they do....sometimes I feel like the universe is just trolling me
Why is Buffalo so sad and surprised? they had an 80% chance of NOT getting him, they must not be very good at math because this was the most likely outcome as far as they are concerned.
next time someone wants to bring up hockey gods save it, they don't exist
Flames better win the cup or its gonna be a very long summer in Alberta
"Flames are dumb they should have tanked what did losing in the playoffs get them"
how do they Oilers win this many lotteries? seriously what are the combined odds....0.007%

Disgusting. I will never give that franchise credit if they actually manage to get that team back on the rails.
The only reason they will be ever be good is due to unbelievable draft lottery luck, not prudent management and team building.
The dependent drug addict was just given yet another hit.

Can't believe what a foul mood this has put me in.
Those idiots deserve to have their franchise revoked, not to be given the best prospect to come along in 10 years.
The only way the dumb a$$es running that organization are ever going to get out of the mess they've made, is to LUCK their way out of it.....and well, here we are. The first gigantic step towards that actually happening just occurred today.

Worst news to wake up to in the morning. I can't think of an organization that deserves this less.

30 team league in which more than half the teams make the playoffs each year. After the draft, 6 times will Edmonton have drafted in the top 7, twice finishing dead last in the league, and twice moving up to first overall from 2nd and 3rd.
In a 30 team league in which more than half the teams make the playoffs each year. I thought the salary cap was supposed to prevent a team from being this bad for this long.
I dont give a hoot how good McDavid is. If someone told me I would have to watch my team perform THAT badly under THAT management for 6 years (forget the other 3 years which were "chasing a dream" years) to get McDavid, I'd stop supporting the team

They have no defense, no leadership and no character on the ice. That will not change with this guy showing up. The organization is too toxic among the PA.
They will have another new coach this year.
They will still have Lowe's minion MacTavish.
They will have a revitalized Lowe, pushing ahead with the same ego and incompetence that got the organization into this mess over the last decade.
In short, McDavid showing up and scoring some more goals will not cure all the above. Even worse, his impact will gloss over the current issues, but Lowe's ego will see point improvement and continue to run things in his misguided way.
