It's not a bad argument for Stone. Solid two way player. Having said that Gaudreau is now out there at the end of the game too (ok maybe riding Monahan's coat tails a bit) and is far and away the most dynamic rookie

Absolutely fantastic.
However, because human beings love to criticize, I wish they would have played up the underdog angle. Kid no one thought could make it at any level, dominates at every level. Everyone loves an underdog!

I think as Flames fans people are a little anti biased in that nobody wants to overhype his accomplishments. But really, he's a sensational player that generates buzz around North America and draws attention from people that aren't hockey fans. He'll win it, if he doesn't it's a robbery.
Getting to watch him the whole season a lot of us don't realize how good he actually is, the way he drives the play, the way defenders back off, the way he can receive passes, give passes, shoot the puck in tight, chip in one timers, spin off checks; all of it, it's not normal. He's a special player in nearly a dozen different ways, of course he's going to win the Calder. Even guys like Kane, Crosby and Stamkos can't do some of the things Johnny does. Can Crosby receive a pass out of the air halfway across the rink with one hand while doing a 360? Johnny does things at such a high speed that his wizardry often goes unnoticed.

Such a fun player to watch, he's the talk of the town. Johnny is a player people will pay good $$ just to see what he might do that night.

So while Ekblad may have been 18 when the season started, he is already a beast physically and larger than 80-90% of his peers.
Personally, I don't think age or size should factor in to the voting (although they certainly do). There are criteria for Calder candidacy, and if you meet the criteria, you should be a consideration.
|
On the other side, Gaudreau has an unfair advantage with his small size, he's able to get through holes an average sized player couldn't.
so yeah, I agree with you

I think Stone and Forsberg should be out of the race, they both have sizable nhl experience before this season.
I think it should come down to Johnny and Ekblad. I wouldn't be as upset if Ekblad won

I would, Johnny's the best rookie period. He should win this award going away. He is already one of the most valuable players in the league IMO.

What will benefit Johnny that other Flames in the past who were up for awards didn't have is that the Eastern USA already knows him well. He's going to get the votes from the Boston, Philidelphia, New York area.

Great job by Flames PR group. Nice tight editing good commentary. If you played this on TV for the next month Johnny could get elected Premier of Alberta!!
Go Johnny Go. Go Flames Go.
