only if Djoker gets hit by a very large truck. I'd say don't bet on it, and instead enjoy the long winter of Federer the way we did when Agassi was the same age. my wish is that he's still a top level player for next year's olympics. I remember a time when it seemed like London 2012 would be unrealistic for him, so as we Flames fans like to say, it's all gravy.

and young up and comer guys, where the eff are you? is there really going to be a long drought before the next generational player shows up?

not many young guys, just Nishikori and Raonic.

Dimitrov doesn't have to have his head in it.
There's Goffin (Marty McFly) ranked 18 but he really only good on play.
Janowicz seems to have broken down.

One to watch is Borna Coric. Ranked 53 and born in 1996.

How can you forget Kyrgios? As far as pure talent goes he's one of the top guys on tour. But he's already almost in legendary head case territory. He's pretty much good for a meltdown a match.

So today Fed gets accosted again on Philippe Chatrier, this time by a fan trying to get a selfie

http://www.si.com/tennis/2015/05/24/...n-court-selfie

apparently it happened on practice courts earlier too with a bunch of kids flooding on to get his autograph. and all this after that crazy guy who tried to put a hat on him in the 2009 final, and the flare wielding guy who came at Rafa a few years back. French Open security everyone!

you'd think the memory of Seles would never fade and this wouldn't be possible anymore, but apparently you can still have a good 10-15 seconds with your favorite tennis player alone on court before anyone reacts. one of these days it's not gonna be someone with a phone or a flare or a hat, but a knife or worse.

Good on Federer for ripping them a new one. That's completely unacceptable. I remember going through security at the US Open in 2013 and it felt like I was at an airport. I'm certainly not complaining; it was just impressive to see how seriously they take it.

The Seles incident was absolutely terrifying.

I agree that the French Open security is lacking but unless they line-up security shoulder to shoulder around every court they will not eliminate this problem completely. The fans should be searched and scanned for weapons before entering.

The NBA must have the same risks but I don't hear about fans running on the basketball court before (though I'm sure it has occurred). At least in the NHL they have the glass to help prevent that.

New York goes overboard on security though. Hell, if you want to bomb the Empire State Building, the security line is easily the best place to do it. Maximum damage and maximum casualties.

Anyway, Venus Williams got knocked off easily by Sloane Stephens, then skipped the press conference. She's likely to get fined for that.

Is anyone headed to the Rogers Cup in Toronto this summer? Or have you ever been before? I'm just wondering about the spectator experience. I've been to the US Open and attended the Davis Cup in the past...just curious if it's a "must see" or would it be better to see a baseball game if you had to pick between the two.

I liked Rogers Cup better than USO because 1) you're generally a lot closer to the players both when they're practicing and playing matches and 2) the ticket prices are way lower. I saw both semifinals in 2013 for a price comparable to the early rounds at USO, which are typically boring affairs where a no-name goes into the meat grinder for a seeded player.

of course, it helped that 2013 was the magic of Raonic/Pospisil and Djoker/Rafa in the semis, but I think overall I just like the bang for your buck at a Masters 1000 tourney compared to a slam (assuming you don't have an unlimited budget). and I'll keep reminding people that Indian Wells is the best of the best for weather and facilities, and a pretty close flight from here.

you probably remember looking at my Montreal pics from a couple years ago. I can't guarantee there'll be more topless Nadal or Fognini action but if it were a choice between tennis and baseball I know which one I'd pick.

I love the women's side of the game overall, but at the moment, it's really boring. I feel very bad saying that. I guess it depends a bit on Genie. Otherwise, it's very same ol', same ol' right now. I'm really missing the days of Davenport and Clijsters.

Women's tennis is for the drama. There's more unpredictability and wilder in-match swings than the mens game. But obviously when it comes to quality they aren't particularly close. Of course this is a golden age for the men and a down time for women which also contributes.

Anyway Gasquet is blowing (pun intended) through his opponent, so Genie will likely be up between 8:45-9.

The Jays are tough because if you are going to a mid-week game against an unimportant opponent, there will be all of 10,000 people at Skydome and no atmosphere. But if it is a weekend series against someone like Boston or New York (and it will be Aug 14-16), it should be a good time.

Though looking at the schedule, a 12:30 game against Oakland on the Thursday, then go to the night draw at the Rogers Open?

I was thinking of that too. Might make for a nice sporting day.

Vasek dropped a straight set decision to Joao Sousa today. First match since rolling his ankle a couple of weeks ago (he feared he had broken it).

Indeed. If I wasn't already going to LA and San Diego for a SoCal baseball road trip (Vin Scully Bobblehead night!) in September, I might have considered that too.

Genie drops the 1st set 6-4. Djokovic digs out of a 2-5 hole to win the 2nd set of his match 7-5.

And Genie broken at the start of the 2nd. This should be pretty quick.
