I think he saw that hit coming, he went for the poke instead of continuing forward.

Uhh, he was a bonehead goon who played in an era where those guys got lots of games in. What is your point? You think he would even make an NHL club in todays NHL if he was entering now? Guy wouldn't get a sniff.

I don't think he expected the player to launch himself.

May played nearly 1100 NHL games. If you are going to pull an appeal to authority fallacy out of your ass, you must realize that he has far more authority to comment than you and your 0 NHL games do.
May is unquestionably wrong, but there are legitimate arguments that refute his position.

He did put himself in a bad position reaching for the puck, but you still can't give a headshot/jump. Also I believe Smid being in a vulnerable position will factor into what the league does for a suspension.

May did have a couple of 40 point seasons. He wasn't a plug in his early days... just hung around forever as a 'character' guy.

REally? So because he gooned his way through a pile of games he knows the game well right? Your argument is that every guy who ever played the game knows more than those who didn't. Brad May knows more avbout hockey than Scotty Bowman then, good to know.

Gio and Brodie are making their one timer passes too slow, they need to move it quicker if they want it to work.

Call him all the childish names you like...you stated he couldn't cut it in the NHL...well you are wrong as evidenced by his resume.
And yes he could still play today as he was one of the "goons" who could play the game as well as throw down which is why he played 19 years....the type that the Flames desperately need right now as a matter of fact.
