I feel pretty confident predicting that Sven doesn't fly back to Calgary with the team. He'll play in Carolina and then head back to the farm.

Not the same type of player at all. It's okay to not like Sven's play but lets lay off the dog piling.

Shrug, they seem similar to me in a lot of respects. Check out this article on Brendl.
http://thehockeywriters.com/what-hap...-pavel-brendl/
I see a lot of parallels. Similar path to the CHL, told they would be stars at a young age, lost their offensive prowess while trying to learn defense, showed regression from year to year after being drafted. I wish the Flames had been as smart as the Rangers or Philly and moved him earlier when his value was still high.

Anyone who watched Brendl in junior could see he had problems. He was a one trick pony who's trick was cherry picking. He was a damn fine cherry picker in junior but the problem was he wasn't a good enough skater to do that and get back on defence. His junior coach didn't even dress him for some playoff games. When Sather picked him I was LMA off.
Maybe Sven doesn't have the best two way games but don't compare him to Brendl.

I wasn't compairing their style of play, just their career trajectory.

His +/- was unfortunate yesterday. Didn't really do anything wrong, but I will say he didn't do much to help the team either.
It's funny, out of the 4 rookies currently playing in the lineup (Baertschi, Granlund, Gaudreau, Jooris), Sven is the one who looks the youngest and most inexperienced, yet he's had more pro experience than anyone (maybe not Granlund with his Liiga experience).

Sven looks like he's playing at 80% effort, frustrating to watch.

Sorry folks could never understand all the hype for Sven. He will likely be back in Europe come a year from now.

I don't think it's likely that he'll go back to europe real soon. He's almost as much a north american as a european now, he's been here since he was 15 or 16 and there's no doubt in my mind that another team will give him a chance if the flames give up on him.
On a team with a little less focus on defense I bet he could put up 40-50 points on a top 2 line right now. I understand the flames focus on 2 way play but not every team expects their forwards to play that way.
People here have a tendency to parrot whatever flames management is saying and their tone has been negative lately... There's no doubt the kid is struggling but he's not close to done. He has already proven he can score in the ahl and somebody will give him a shot in the nhl unless the flames refuse to move him and bury him.
Unfortunately his trade value has been knocked down pretty good. Maybe could return a 3rd or a 2nd?

He pretty much just stepped on the ice and got a minus on two of those goals.
As with others, I don't think Sven did anything really wrong yesterday, but he also regressed from the game before.
It is really only a matter of time before he's back in Addy. Unfortunately.

He just hasn't done anything to warrant him staying up in Calgary. There has to be progression and I don't think anyone is really seeing it right now. I agree that he is over thinking things and maybe needs fresh start but I hope we don't give up on him.
I don't think Hartley has a hate on for him at all. I think Hartley is a pretty honest guy when it comes to dealing with his guys. This is all on Sven right now, he is seeing guys left and right being called up and playing well. What isn't work for him? He has the talent, we have all seen it, right now I think most will agree it is all in his head.
He really needs to just put the hard work in and do everything the coaches are telling him, it will come. He has to earn it, right now he isn't.
Once his ELC is up, what do the flames do?

Qualify him and try to sign him. Without question or hesitation.

I'd still rather have Sven up than Setoguchi...

I'd rather Sven is playing top six minutes in Addy than riding the pine in Calgary - which is what either Sven or Setoguchi will be doing once bodies get healthy.

Why? Seto is playing alot better may not be getting points but blocking shots and being aggressive not to mention he uses his size well. Sven hasnt done anything to stay up on the team over seto ... that being said when the injured guys come back i think they both will be sent down

I'm sure they've thought of or done this, but they need to get some Portland highlights stat.
He needs to think he's the man and create again. Find out what he's done differently in the past two years and get it back. It won't come over night but he has to see visually what he's no longer doing.
His play in the WHL, his play in those 5 games in Calgary, his play in the start of the lockout season in the AHL, and his play after the Iginla deal in Calgary again ... all had a guy with confidence, speed and an ability to create.
He's lost it. A complete non factor

Yeah not much to be said other than he certainly has lost his mojo. Nothing to be done at this point other than ship him back to the AHL and hope he gets things going. His trade value has to be very low so hopefully he doesn't ask for a trade or anything as he's simply going to have to tough it out in the AHL until he shows he's ready.

His lack of maturity whenever things don't go his way has been frustrating and worrisome, but I'd have to think he can still get there. He will have a troublesome rise to relevance, but there has to be a lot of loyalty earned when he looks back at the patience and perseverance this organization would have shown him by the time he gets there.
With the amount of young talent we are going to have to pay some day, loyalty is going to be a huge chip we will need to be playing.
I just don't see his trade value as anything worth not having him yet. If he's a valuable part in a trade that helps us now and in the future, sure. But he definitely isn't worth anything on his own.
