Please do yourself a favour and don't rely on drops to get gear after twenty. Focus on earning Marks, Coins, Reputation and Motes of Light through Strikes, Patrols and Bounties.
Then turn all of these in to the various vendors in the Tower to purchase the gear you want.
Anything random dropping above and beyond is just a bonus, not the entire focus of the game. People wasting their time farming for random drops and then getting upset by the randomness of it, makes me sad. Just play the game and you'll be stacked within a week or two.
Also focus on spinmetal, relic iron, spirit bloom and helium filaments, which are gathered throughout the planets an Ascendant shards earned from getting gold in public events. These are all used to upgrade the Legendary and Exotic gear you'll purchase from the Tower.
Then... Once your gear is strong enough, you'll ding lvl 28 and be properly equipped to tackle Nightfall Strikes and Raids.
I think a lot of people got into the habit of games like Borderlands, and Diablo, and similar type games where farming is the only way to get those types of weapons... I like your plan better
I'm really confused how I'm supposed to do multiplayer. Haven't really had much time at it, but I can't find anywhere where there is a "join a group" thing. Also, how do I collect bounties?

Click options, then press L1 to go to Roster. You'll see three columns, Fireteam, Friends and Game. From there, you can invite someone or join someone else's Fireteam.
The Game column tells you which players are in the world with you at any given time, as almost everything is instanced.
Bounties are a vendor in the Tower, you can start working on those once you've reached a certain point in the story. The vendor will offer you ten choices, five are red (PvP) and five are blue (I think lol). They assign bounties to a task, kill ten enemies, complete this mission, etc. Once you complete the task, an icon will flash on the screen to indicate you can return to the Tower to turn in the bounty for your reward.

Looking to start a raid this weekend tonight or tomorrow...anyone interested?
Randy (G1bb0s_ ) is looking to do one tonight as well. Send him a message, he's in the clan. I'm up for it, I should be 28 by tonight and am definitely ready to Raid!

If you guys are on Sunday afternoon or so and wanna do some strikes/pvp or anything let me know. I'll be on until 4 or so then I gotta get ready to go pick up my buddy and head to the preseason game vs the greasers
Beat the first raid boss so far. The raid is intense! Even getting in to the vault took us 25 minutes to figure out. First boss is a 3 phase fight...Thanks Kevin for joining us!
For anyone that plays PvP I highly suggest to never bail on a game no matter how bad it looks. I played a 3v3 game of skirmish, and my two teammates both sucked and bailed quite early, leaving me 1v3 for the rest of the match. I played some guerrilla tactics, hit & run and laying traps with grenades. Even managed to take all 3 of them down at once with the Titan smash which was extremely satisfying. I still lost of course, but had the most kills and was rewarded at the end with a purple engram, which gave me my first piece of legendary gear. I've seen reports of others sticking through a lobsided match to get similarly rewarded, so it's nice to see Bungie recognizing people who don't rage quit
Thanks to that and a couple blue pieces of PvP gear I'm at lvl 23, so if anyone wants to run some strikes just hit me up if you see me online
Thanks for all the great info that’s been shared in this thread so far. I picked up the ps4 destiny bundle on launch day and have been chipping away at the game and just got to level 20 today.
I still don’t really know what I’m doing.
This type of game is pretty new to me. I've been looking forward to this because I’ve always been a huge Halo fan so I’m interested to see what Bungie has been up to the last few years.
I just opened up the Venus missions, but haven’t really played there too much yet.
I read somewhere last week that we should wait to convert our engrams until we’re at the higher levels. I have several engrams sitting in my vault, only converting 1 so far a while ago that turned into a rocket launcher. When should I unload all these?
I also haven’t really spent any money on anything yet. I’ve upgraded a few weapons but I’m starting to think that’s pointless because pretty soon I’ll level up and have better weapons, so I should just save my money. Any thoughts on this?
I've also realized this game is a lot more fun when you're playing with other people, so I'll add my name to the list and look forward to teaming up with you guys.

Shame I couldn't join in on the rest but it was a good first taste of the Raid.

I didn't see any new OSI applications this morning, I'll keep my eyes open for it.
And now I just learn about the expansion pass for future DLC that I wasn't even aware of, and that if I had bought the deluxe edition of the game it would have come included and be cheaper than buying the standard edition and expansion pass later. Christ sake I hate how terrible Bungie is at providing any kind of information about the game or while playing it
Thanks Stryker and anduril for making a great day of raiding. Probably put in a good 12 hours on Saturday and managed to learn and execute most of the fights.
For those complaining about content, you can consider the raid almost its entire own game. First time players will easily put in 14-20 hours in there. The level of coordination is pretty intense and I see why Bungie did not intend to do it as a pick up group.
I plan to run a weekly raid once we get it down pat, so as CP guys get ready just add me on or send me a message.
