I wasn't reading into it quite like that.
This seems like a last ditch effort for the Hawks to convince Hayes to sign in Chicago. Give him the all-star treatment and show him the city and such.
It would be a big dick move for Hayes to not even give Chicago the chance to sway his decision.

Nope bigger dick move is stringing along a team you have no intention of signing with.
Case and point Tim Erixon.

He is being much more upfront and honest with Chicago than Erixon was with the Flames. Erixon pretended to be interested up until the end.
Hayes is acting more like Knight did

I don't see a problem with going to watch the game and then not signing. It's a free ticket which is peanuts to any team. Hey, thanks for the game. Glad you guys lost! Thanks too for stiffing my bro!
Now if he said he was interested in signing and then backed out, that would be different. I don't think taking them up on their offer to go to a game really means that. Just go to the game and if it's still in his mind to not sign, who cares? Maybe a part of that is my dislike for the Hawks, so if it's seen as a dbag move, good on em.
And I don't see it like the Tom Erixon fiasco at all. Tom insisted on playing for the Rangers and I still believe there was tampering involved. Just kindly take the Hawks up on their offer, as it's nothing binding and enjoy them losing out.

Wasn't Kevin Hayes a bit of a disappointment in the World Championship? Gaudreau really showed who carried that line in college.

Case in point.
By stating the name, " Tim Erixon," you've presented your entire case in a single point.
I tried not to post this, but I really didn't stand a chance. Sorry.

He's still a decent prospect, and signing a guy like that without losing picks is always good.

I think his performance at the World Championships showed that he needs AHL development time and that he is probably further away from the NHL than some might have thought.
If a team was thinking of trading a 2nd+ for Hayes, they most likely have nixed that idea.
Still as an UFA I still see a lot of teams lining up for his services.

The more egregious error is getting his first name incorrect

Hayes is a big RW who has chemistry with two pf our top prospects and he's close to NHL ready. This is exatcly what we need. I see him signing in one of 3 places
FLORIDA: + His brother Jimmy Hayes is a Panther, oppoutunity
– Not close to winning
BOSTON: + Born in Boston, played on Boston teams his whole life, good team
– lack of oppourtunity which is why he wants to leave Chicago
CALGARY: + Johnny and Billy, oppourtunity
– West coast and Canada, not winning

He might still sign with the hawks. They're going to have to make some moves soon and a spot might open up for him there

Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman said Tuesday that he was still optimistic he could sign Hayes. The Blackhawks hosted Hayes recently during Game 5 of the Western Conference finals. Bowman said he spoke to Hayes then.
“We said since the day we finished school we’ve been talking to him all year and all four years of college,” Bowman said. “We want to sign him. I think he just wanted to take his time and decide what’s best for him. [We're] very hopeful that he wants to be part of our group.
“I think when he sees the way that we play. His skill set is very comparable to the players that have had success here. I think it’s a great fit for Kevin. He’s 22 years old, so he’s not in that 19-year-old category. He may not be a guy who has to spend a long time developing. So that's the benefit of leaving a player in college for four years. He’s got a lot of talent.”

Quote:
ESPN NHL Draft and Prospects analyst Corey Pronman didn’t believe Hayes would be ready to crack the Blackhawks’ lineup immediately if he signed with the organization. He ranked the 6-foot-2, 201-pound Hayes behind Teravainen and forward Ryan Hartman, the team’s 2013 first-round pick, and right with defenseman Adam Clendening and forwards Phillip Danault and Mark McNeill among the Blackhawks’ top prospects.
“[Hayes] could be a second-line winger as an unusually skilled player for his size possibly, but will need AHL seasoning as needs to rounds out game and improve his consistency,” Pronman said.
Bowman was still open to Hayes playing wing or center.
“He played his first three years as center, and this last year he was on the wing,” Bowman said. “He was part of the best line in college hockey. They dominated. It’s certainly nice to see him be able to do both. He’s got the combination of size and skill, and that’s hard to find.”

Morin would be ahead of him as well, IMO.
Can't see too many top 6 spots opening up any time soon in Chicago. Even top 9.

You have to wonder if Hayes is still thinking along the lines of playing with his former linemates? It's a little unusual that he's still not signed on the dotted line.

I think the kid will bust. Leave him be . He's hoping someone throws a maximum ELC his way, but clearly the kid benefitted from playing with THE MOST TALENTED COLLEGE HOCKEY PLAYER OF HIS GENERATION...
Not interested.

He'll get a maximum ELC wherever he goes. He's mostly looking for where he'll have a good chance at getting a NHL spot, with playing with his brother, or playing with his college line are the wild cards.
