Isn't it bad optics that Burke isn't there?
If I was Johnny, I'd have a better feeling if the Flames (acting) GM was there too
Oh for ####s sake. Seriously?!!!!! It's amazing anyone from the organization is there, let alone our associate GM. And if we really are chartering him a jet and flying the families out then OMG, we are essentially giving him the red carpet treatment. Not many prospects get a welcome like that.
What exactly has this kid accomplished at this point that suggests he should be getting treated like he's the next coming? And why are so many Flames fans so insecure about the appeal of this organization that the feel all of the Flames upper management should kneeling on front of this kid taking care of his needs 24/7? The Flames are already going above and beyond, and we seriously get the obligatory "where's Burke".
He's ####ing working, and he's letting Connie play chauffeur as it should be.

However, I do agree he should form his own identity. But if he were to wear 14 temporarily until he decides on his future number, then it wouldn't really bother me (would be kind of awesome just to see on Sunday, even).
What has Johnny done? Hmmm. NCAA NHLE is the closest to the AHL and he's put points in 30+ games while breaking all kinds of records that haven't been touched in years.
Secondly, Gaudreau’s current NHLE sits in a comparable class with Patrick Kane, Brett Hull, Eric Lindros, Theo Fleury, Joe Sakic, Ray Whitney, Sidney Crosby and many other notable players from the last 30 years.
Obviously it’s a different game from when most of those players reached the 60+ NHLE.
In fact, there’s only been four players to reach the mark in the past 15 years, which likely means the lower leagues likely had different translation factors back in the day. Therefore, hitting the 60+ NHLE mark in today’s modern era is all that more impressive.
I'm not saying he is going to be that good, nobody knows, but his potential is there and he has shown that, there's a reason he's #1 in scoring.

I agree that we're all putting a lot of expectations on him already and it's unfair cause we did it to baertschi too... But I think most of us have learned our lesson and know it will likely take time for gaudreau to develop into the player we think he can be.
Those of us wanting the flames to do all they can to get him signed are just nervous about getting Schultzed by a player who is arguably the most hyped college prospect in the last decade... And not just hyped by flames fans. If he signs this weekend then all of us who were nervous about it and who wanted chartered flights and free skittles to convince him to sign will feel ridiculous... but he has to sign first.
Once signed... I don't want him given any preferential treatment at all compared to any of the other flames prospects or players. He should earn every ice time he gets and should face the same criticisms and tough love that baertschi has. No free rides no matter what.
I fully expect him to play a full season in the AHL before becoming a flames regular but will be pleasantly surprised if he makes the team next year. Don't forget the flames have a lot of competition for that spot next year... Baertschi, granlund, Reinhart, knight, poirier, and this year's draft pick will all be competing for spots on this team just like gaudreau.
The only guarantees he should have is that he'll be given the same chance everyone else has to make the team. With the kind of player he is... That should be enough for him.
