Since he already won an NCAA championship in his Freshman year I'm cool with him not winning one this year.

I look forward to him being a member of the American triple-gold club: NCAA, WJC, Stanley Cup

Why is it ok to cheer for the flames to win to make our prospects winners, and also cheer for JG team to lose while he scores a bunch.

We want a winner, not a Taylor Hall!

GO BOSTON COLLEGE!

1) From all accounts, Flames are extremely high on Gaudreau and Arnold for the reasons already mentioned.
2) Both are considered extremely likely to be joining the team SOON (if not this month, then in the fall.)
3) Gaudreau's mom and sisters are active online, so there's little doubt in my mind that they've read this thread already.
4) For you jersey honks, Gaudreau wore 60 in camp, Arnold wore 92. They'll both likely get assigned new numbers.
5) McGrattan may be the most beloved figure in the Flames locker room.

Does anyone know if there is a broadcast of Boston College vs. Denver tomorrow? Either on TV or the internet?

I know Gaudreau is listed on the Flames prospects page as #60, but he wore #53 at least year's development camp. #60 was (and still is) Granlund.

P.S. A "honk"? That's a new one for me

Because Taylor Hall never won anything prior to joining the Oilers?

Plus winning another championship would certainly prevent Gaudreau from returning one more year.

It seems I've read all of my free articles on the sun for this month. Any chance someone could give a brief description of what was said? I know it's against the rules to post full articles, just curious what St. Louis had to say.

I have Verizon cable tv in Los Angeles and it's on a channel called ESPN U, I don't know if that is any help at all because I don't know how cable or television services work in this country/continent or whatever... But... Hopefully that helps

The real worry is why have you read ten Calgary Sun articles in a full month...

Here are the quotes relevant to Gaudreau.

Quote:
“It’s all about speed. Size doesn’t matter. It’s all about speed,” St. Louis said after the morning skate in preparation for facing the Flames on Friday night at the Saddledome.

“You can see there are a lot of small guys playing. If he’s got the speed, you can’t worry about his size.”
Quote:
“The thing about a small guy is you can’t get labelled as just an offensive guy,” said St. Louis, who helped Canada win gold at the ’14 Olympic Winter Games and shortly after forced a trade from Tampa Bay to the Rangers. “You’ve got to bring more to the table. If you don’t score 40 or 30 goals, you’ve got to bring something else to the table. You can’t just think offensively.”
Quote:
“Back then, there was no small guys. I always felt back then a small guy had to prove that he could play and a big guy had to prove that he couldn’t play,” St. Louis said.

St Louis tells Johnny to make sure he isn't one dimensional and that smaller players can play now unlike when he broke in. His advice really was to be good defensively because a small guy can't just produce offence. He also said that if you're small you must be fast

Not much. Skate fast and he'll be fine. Prepped better in College hockey now then when he went so he'll likely be better suited for the pro game now, as compared to when he came out...
No actual "advice" per se.

No.

As a college player, he cannot sign any kind of contract. And without a contract (including a try-out contract) he can't play for a pro team. As a college player, he cannot do anything else.

If he leaves college behind, he can sign with the Flames and then he couldn't play for Abby.

If he signs a contract for next season, he could sign a PTO for this spring and play with Abby.

Either of those things can only happen after he is done with BC

I don't know if that contact for next season thing is available for College players.

This is all so confusing.

If you are referring to my post, no it is not.

Again, while he is in college - no contracts. Period. No Abby, no Flames.

If he leaves BC, he has the two choices:

1) Flames contract, no Abby.

2) Flames contract starting next season, and then PTO with Abby for this season

EDIT: that means leaves BC for good (no going back next year)

EDIT 2: that means no going back to BC FOR HOCKEY. If he signs a pro contract, he can still finish his education. But the college hockey would be done.

Yeah, I got most of that. It's the "contract for next season" that can confuse people. College players don't do that, like we've seen CHL guys. College guys sign their entry level deal, it's not specified which year it will start. Agostino didn't sign a contract for "this year" he signed his ELC. As soon as he played a game for the Flames, it kicked it. It wasn't a specified "2013-2014" or "2014-2015" contract. Atleast I don't think.

I'd prefer if he just signed with the Flames and finished the season in the NHL though to be honest. I'm not worried about burning a year for a handful of games, it's not like he'll be a star in two years and have a crazy contract and we'd wish we still had one more.

Yes Agostino signed a contract for this year, and was unable to go to Abby. If Gaudreau does that (the more likely), he can't play in Abby either.

Some guys however, sign contracts that start the next season. If he does that (less likely), he could then sign a PTO with Abby.

And some college guys DO do that. I can't think of an example off hand though - Dekeyser?

Maybe someone else can help here

A recent example is Colin Campbell (not that Colin Campbell, this one: http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/p...php?pid=115502). He signed with the Wings when his college season ended earlier this month. His ELC kicks in next season and he was assigned to Grand Rapids on an ATO.

The whether a contract starts this year or not is completely up to negotiation.

Some college players have the position (i.e. pending UFA or offers from other teams) to negotiate it in. Some don't.
