One thing that players never lose in the late stages of their careers is their shot. Jarome may be a step or 2 slower than he was, but if he's allowed too float around in the offensive zone firing one timers and loose pucks at the net he's going to pick up 30 goals. He won't score any highlight reel breakaways (did he ever?) but standing on the off wing on the PP is going to get him a pile of points this year.

Before everyone awards Iggy the Hart Trophy, remember that this is a preseason game against essentially a split squad.
One thing to keep in mind is even with less travel playing in the east, an 82 game regular season is a grind. Tougher for a 36 year old player especially with someone like Iggy who's logged a lot of ice-time in the last 17 seasons.
Iggy can still shoot the puck no doubt, but he's not even close to the player of 2001-2004, no one is!
I disagree totally, watching the game last night (I no it's pre-season) he actually looked the best I've seen him in a long time. I'm not sure what the difference is, but I think he will surprise a lot of people this year. I'm predicting 35+ goals

Linemates and preseason competition. That said, he'll do fine this year.

Alfredsson has 2 more points than Iginla in their careers. Better linemates as well, but it's a bit odd of a statement to say that. And even then Iginla likely got the bigger contract, if the reported game bonus is correct he'll make as much as the maximum Alfredsson can make after playing 10 games this season. I'm not sure what Alfredsson's bonus structure is but he can only make 5.5M.
Dude Alfie is 41 years old and Iginla is 36. If Allfie only has 2 more points career than Iginla, Iginla clearly has done better in the point column.
Not many guys score as many as Iginla has, and when its all said and done, he will be in the 600 goal club. Don't forget he missed an entire year in his prime due to the last lockout.
Anyone here think its possible iggy reaches 700 goals? That'd be crazy. Only
6 players have done it
I am a huge believer in Iggy... If there's one guy who could maybe so it, it's iginla.
I don't know if any player has been screwed over more by the league more than iginla. He went through both of these lockouts and just think of what it has cost his position on the all time goal scoters list. He would be a sure fire bet to make 700 goals if it had not been for the lockouts. In 2004-2005, he was arguably the best player in the world. And would have easily put up another 40+ goals. In a full season last year, he would have another 30 goals. That means he would be at or past the 600 goal mark by now... And don't even get me started about the Stanley cup he should have had his name on in 2004.

He used to have an awesome one timer coming in off the wing.

"screwed over more"???? Do you know how much money Iggy has made? The man is loved by an enitre city. I highly doubt Iggy thinks that he has been "screwed over".

He will probably have a bit of a chip on his shoulder, I bet he hits up near 40 goals. He is going to have a situation in Boston with more guys feeding him the puck.

I agree with this part of your statement. I don't think he's ever in his career taken as much abuse from the media/fans as he did last season. Between the debacle with his NTC and the Pens (including Iginla's) performance in the playoffs I'm sure he feels he has a ton of questions to answer this season. Wouldn't be shocked to see him hit 30 again this year, but 40 might be pushing it.

Of course he wouldn't think he's been screwed over... He's too classy to be like that. But as a fan of hockey and of iginla's... I have no problem saying that. It's not all about money for these guys... Case in point... Iginla donates $2000 to the children's hospital for every goal he scores.
