Is this a legit rumor?
I don't see TOR making this deal...unless they don't want Phaneuf as the Captain, I guess...perhaps best to move him as opposed to simply removing the C??

I think it is pure speculation by some hopeful Flames fans

There is no way Toronto does that trade. But I would be absolutely for it as well if it was on the table. The reality is that we would have to add something significant. And then it doesn't make sense for the Flames. Because even if you like Phaneuf it makes no sense for Calgary to give up something significant for a player with 1-year on his contract.

I would do it just because the flames could get a better return at the deadline for Dion. Playoff teams seem to pay a lot for 2nd pairing d-men.

I think you'd be a fool not to take Phaneuf back for Cammalleri. I don't think Toronto is that stupid however, so it's a moot point.

Crazy how far Cammalleri has dropped off in the last 5 years. I remember the day we acquired him I was so estatic. Now I would rather him gone and off this team just for a young nobody with the possibility of some talent.

Has everyone forgot why we got rid of Dion in the first place? guys a major DB. Every night watching the leafs highlights its the same thing-guys scoring on them while Dion stands off to the side of the net doing NOTHING, or letting guys breeze by him wide on the way to the net. not to mention, its always been widely speculated that hes a major dressing room distraction......

Maybe he is a DB to you, but flames players seemed to like him when he was in Calgary. Langkow used to go fishing with him, he hung out with Kipper alot in the bars, and Iggy would have dinner with him every time he was in Toronto after the trade. Does not sound like a DB to me. Maybe fans did not like him when the saw him out at the bars. Guess what, if you don't like him outside of the arena, then don't try and hang out with him.
As for "major dressing room distrcation" every thing i have heard out of Toronto the players like him. The only reason he was a distraction for the flames was that he did not want the country club atmosphere. For that reason alone i would not mind him back.

You named 3 players who supposedly liked him. what about the rest of the room? we've all heard plenty of rumors about his off ice behavior (his strained relationship with Reggie, Iggy clearing out the dressing room in front of media to punch him out, etc) and while i don't believe everything i hear, where theres smoke theres fire. When he was traded and the media asked flames players if Dion was a distraction, most of them ran to the hills. I don't doubt Toronto players say they like him, what else are they gonna say? And if he doesn't want a country club atmosphere, someone should teach him how to defend. Lastly, i know someone who works at the dome and you should hear what she has to say about him-and she doesn't frequent bars.

I'll pass on getting Phaneuf back to CGY. The whole second tour of duty thing is a little stale in my books. The Flames have done it enough without much success so there's no reason to do it again.
That would make it what? Tanguay, Cammalleri, Jokinen, Begin, Vernon and Phaneuf that come back for another throw? Am I missing anyone? There has been no success.
Flames are trying to move on from the past, not bring it back anymore.

I would do absolutely nothing to get Dion back in Calgary.
If Dion comes back to Calgary I seriously question the direction of this team.
