Yeah, for those saying they aren't going to buy it, I fully understand.

I was gifted my copy after making some of the same pronouncements, but would have purchased the game after playing it for a couple of hours a friend's.

I was big on the bandwagon of "EFF OFF EA", and I still am to a large degree, but in the instance of this particular game, I'm glad I have it because it's much more fun to play, in all game modes.

Offline Game Modes are pretty good this year, Be A GM has been vastly improved. As someone who essentially took last year off from EASHL, I can say that I really enjoy the mode once again now that hitting and size and skating have been taken into account.

All in all, I would say this is easily the best hockey game since nhl 09.

can anybody comment on the offline Be a GM mode? That's pretty much the only mode I always play and I'm interested if/how they have improved it. Thanks in advance!

Had a 50€ Amazon voucher left from my birthday - would've probably used it for this game if not for GTA V probably not getting this year's edition, but if Be a GM (and Be a Pro) was a lot better than last year, I would probably think about it ...

So far the Be A GM is MUCH better in my opinion, however, I have yet to play through an entire season, just so you know.

I have to agree that the game is miles ahead of last years and worth the money. If you want some fun with some buddies, choose "Intense mode" when you start up a game. It's a blast! The players all skate crazy fast and the hits are huge. Good times when you are just hanging out.

Finally did the download (good choice to avoid the high Ontario sales taxes) and played a few EASHL games. 1st it's ridiculous that at the end of each game it backs out to the main menu. Can't say I notice many in game differences so far. The hitting is better in ways and worse in ways. Poke check isn't as powerful but then again most guys are starting with low XP and once everyone gets legend I'm sure it'll be the same. Skating is a bit less sluggish even for the 47 overall starting player.

The new drop-in lobby isn't what I was hoping for but it's a little better and a little worse. I was wanting it to ask you what position you wanted to play, and then have it drop you into a lobby where that slot was open. Insteady you choose a side, an open position and ready up. Don't understand why you have to unready to mute other players so now you're screwed if you unready to mute someone as you'll lose your position. Rest of it still sucks. Still 2 pauses per team. Quitting still causes everyone to wait.

Fighting is good but now all an EASHL game is a brawl at center ice that I have to sit 10 mins through.

Broke down and bought it. The skating is far better and more fluid. The poke checking is a little more under control. The one touch deke is very nice.

I can't believe I couldn't wait a year

Accepted by league in the sense that there's no cap or roster issues. The Penguins however, would likely not accept. But who knows, every year I always find a way to acquire Crosby.

The video shows the Penguins accepting that package.

I'm debating whether or not to pick it up. I find FIFA to be way more enjoyable, and will likely get sucked into that pretty completely so I'll likely take a pass.

I should get on FIFA. By all accounts it's a way better franchise at this point. My issue is that I'm good at NHL and I'd probably get my ass kicked if I tried to just pick up FIFA which would be frustrating.

Have they announced if they will be doing a roster update again this year? Presume it won't be until mid October or so?

There have already been 2 roster updates to take care of summer trades, etc. but yeah, they usually do one mid-October to match opening day lineups.

imo, grinder build is still the best.

Two way D on defense.

I enjoy playing it, but the forced passes that defenders can't pick up is a little annoying, they need to adjust the slider for pass interceptions and I'll be happy.

Likely as that was what happened when i first picked up FIFA. But you'll be fine. I enjoy the manager mode in FIFA more than the GM mode in NHL. I like taking that team in npower2 up to the premiereship and seeing my scouted players develop and make an impact (because you need them to as the money is tight). I like my former "stars" dropping to subs and reserves, whining about it and demanding transfers. I like the complications that can arise when the ownership steps in and just sells a player that pulls the rug out from under you.

That said my wife picked up NHL 14 for me as a gift (such a nice wife) and it is much better than NHL 12. I find the sliders to be better so that it is much easier to generate a good competitive level of play for yourself against the computer (before it was like one change could make it the game go from stupid easy to I'm never going to win again). Still some cheap goals to be found (slap shot from a bad angle has a ridiculous success rate) but better. GM mode is better but some stupid trades can still be exploited. As a canuck fan (yes yes I know) my first order of business was trading Luongo+2nd round pick to Florida for the second overall pick. I then traded Ballard and something for another first round pick. I ended up drafting MacKinnon, Monahan and Shinkaruk. The future looks good.

I put Monahan on the Flames. Here is a picture I took:

Size:
Spoiler!

Monahan kinda looks like Crosby in this game.

BAP...

You've been drafted 1st overall!

...by the Edmonton Oilers FML
How the hell did Edmonton have the #1 pick?
edit:
- Pre-Game Interview: "It's tough to say, because I definitely do not want to be a part of this organization or living in this city." Haha, good option of an answer, please get me traded.
- You really tied my hands this time, I have no choice, but to trade you. Have your bags packed and wait for my call. YES!! Thank you Mac!
