Until this is confirmed I don't think it does anyone any good to speculate about it.

Why not? The Flames provide us with nothing to talk about on the ice, so why not discuss an interesting topic. It's been reported on a national Sportsnetwork, it's not like some random poster just made it up and sparked 19 pages of discussion.
If it gets confirmed one way or another then that can spark it's own convo, but there really isn't anything else interesting to discuss as it relates to this team.

This. I don't think this thread should even be continued till we find out if Kypreos was just tooting his own horn, or if it's true, why Kiprusoff went and said this to management.

Seriously. Do it. It's absolutely ridiculous to see a fanbase blowing up on eachother because someone refuses to be traded because he just had a kid and wants to be their for his wife. People do that, you know? Try to stay in town to be around when his kid is saying his first words? Learning to walk? Read? First day of school? Shouldn't a complicated matter. He's going to care more about his family than a dead last NHL team that isn't going anywhere with or without him.

...Franchise Player that has posted less on this board in 6 months than you have in this thread. I used to enjoy coming to this place to talk with other flames fans about hockey. The irony in all of this is, Kiprusoff is the main reason clowns like you started polluting CP in the first place.
I remember this team in the years before Kiprusoff. It wasn't pretty. He's the single biggest reason there were division titles and playoff appearances. Although the Flames are once again a bad team, thats not on him. He's given Flames fans world class hockey for the better part of 10 years. He signed a deal to play in Calgary, as his career winds down there are other variables that come into play. If he doesn't want to leave, that's good with me. Miikka Kiprusoff has given me enough.

Surely the Flames know his personal situation and wouldn't even consider a trade if there were issues related to his newborn child or with his wife relating to the birth.

If we only discuss topics that can irrefutably "confirmed" this forum would blow. Nothing but game day threads and post game discussion.
I know we are all sad that it's one of our players that is causing a stirr in this fashion, but so be it. No one would be asking for "confirmation" to continue a discussion if Schneider was rumored to have refused to report if traded.

Well OP should at least put [Rumour] in the thread title. It's just pretty embarrassing seeing some fans blow this so far out of proportion without really even knowing what the story is.

Yup...absolutely no issue in my eyes either.
Dude has positioned himself to put family first...and has. Fine by me.
He may retire this summer, he may want to play.....either way its nothing the Flames cant deal with in July.

You remember the Flames from before Kipper was on the team!!! Wow, you must have been a fan for a really long time! My appologies, didn't realize you were one of the real fans, thought you were just another 04 band wagoner like me who only started watching hockey after the cup run. Again, my sincer appologies. Would it work for you if a clown like me PM'd you my thoughts before I post them........make sure I pass the "real fan test" before I pollute the board? It would be super swell if you'd do that for me, but totally understand that's a lot to ask.

Just gotta say, when Tim Thomas decided to take a year off of hockey for family reasons and not honour his contract, about 95% of posters on here were all over him for it, calling him a classless ######.
Although it's a slightly different situation, now there are rumours about Kiprusoff wanting to do something similar and there is much more sympathy being shown.
I love Kipper as much as anyone, but quitting in the middle of a season is not cool.

It wasn't for family reasons buddy, it was because of political reasons. Him and the owner didn't agree politically and he got his panties in a knot.
Not the same situation at all.

If this was an Oilers player this forum would be ripe with "haha Stupid Oilers" comments, and if a player the Flames wanted in a trade refused to report here people would be spewing venom out. But it's Kipper, I guess it must be different
|
There you go, you last sentence just answered your first question.
Yes he is a great player, yes he is a new Dad, but no he is not like a lot of other players that are Dad's.
Please go down the list of starting elite level goal tenders in the league who have been better team mates and members of their community than Kipper. Not taken a night off, not complained to the media, not made them self a distraction, not been a detriment to their them for the last 8 years. Please go ahead.
Bobby Lou?
Price?
The Boulin Wall?
Hmmm....
Tim Thomas?
Brezy?
Theodore?
Still Going...
Turco?
Halak?
Look man, sometimes you gotta support people based on what they have done, not on what they can will do. He's done enough, complain if Tangs or Cammi won't report, or Fore, I won't stop you. Kipper is different though, and if you can't see why I feel sorry for you as a fan of sports.
In the end, yes it's a cold business, but I would hope there is still some human element and understanding left for guys who went above and beyond and made a franchise not look like fools most nights.
You may not get this now, but I think you will in about 2 years when we have a new guy between the pipes. Believe me on that.

Nothing similar at all...in fact quite the opposite....Kiprusoff wants to play...in Calgary.

I always had the sense that when these kind of contracts were/are being signed (ie. huge contracts with peanuts being paid out in the last year or so) that they were just about getting around the cap. In many cases I think both the player and the organization know full well that the final years are probably retirement time. It's obviously not a stretch that Kipper's deal was structured with the expectation that he could retire this year. If that's the case, when the team turns around and tries to trade him at that time, I'm all for him giving them the 'no thanks'.
