Doesn't matter... they matched because they don't want to lose him for the RFA compensation. Pretty sure whether they lose him to us or the folk higher on the waiver priority list matters not.
Besides even if they (Col) wanted to take the risk on losing O'Reilly the Flames could end up with him should a greivence come out in their favor. They're not going to not match the offer.

...I think I'm going to be sick.
If they didn't file the paperwork, we'll see how big of an a-hole Sherman can be haha.

Ya COL should still match, because they would still only get a 1st and 3rd rounder and someone ahead of them on waivers would claim ROR.
No chance he goes through waivers and they get to keep ROR, 1st and a 3rd.

Cap guy should get a follow up for sure....you are only as good as your people.
Still like Feaster better than the Sutter endtimes. Not checking out the waiver stuff is cr@p but the effort to move and make deals is way better than the inactivity of a few teams incl. our neighbours to the north.

I'm not so sure. I think Colorado gets first dibs on the player they lost on waivers.

when i saw this thread i was shaking my head initially, then i left and read the damien cox blog - yikes, that would ahve been an epic blunder - it will be interesting to see what happens in the short term. as an aside, it is possible that jay's phone is ringing like crazy whith teams looking to make deals.......
on the flip side, i'd hate to see the flames make more churn at the top. either way, i have no direct input.....

Wait so how does it benefit the Avs to not match, assuming they still haven't filed the paperwork?
Aren't the BJs first on the waiver list?
So why would this change the Avs decision making? They were going to get a 1st and a 3rd before if they didn't match, and that still would be the case, the only difference being the team ROR goes to.

So I'm not the only one who wants them to not match now just to see the carnage?

No doubt screwing over the Flames would be a good FU move by Sherman but if he doesn't match, he's still going to end up on a similar position, losing Reilly for a 1st and a 3rd.

They could not match and make Calgary trade for his RFA status

That's exactly what I mentioned before. I'm not entirely sure, but I think Mike Holdich is their resident guru on financial and CBA stuff.

You gotta think the NHL is heavily involved in this right now trying to straighten it out. That's probably why we haven't heard anything from the Flames yet.

Well, if COL hasn't matched and they decide to leverage their position then I don't see a scenario where Feaster isn't fired....
Ugh, a new embarrassing low as a Flames fan.

Yep, that's how I understood it as well. So they could get the picks AND ROR.
