So what does it mean if your exactly median age?
Guess I can wait .5 more years and be old.

At the end of the day, you have the ability to decide the quality of life you want to have. I wonder, and honestly don't know, if the pre-sickness fitness of an individual has a positive affect on the individual's ability to recover from that sickness.
For example:
Is an active 43 yr old and an inactive 43 yr old is diagnosed with a cancer are the survival rates higher for the active individual? I don't know, but I also don't care.
I do care about what I can control, and not feeling "more tired and old" is something I can control. I can decide to be active and be able to play with my kids when they are in their teens.

I don't know if I feel old and tired, but I do have a lot more aches and pains than I did when I was in my 40s. I do workout daily, but I have slowed down a bit - I'm 62. I probably have avoided some health issues by keeping fit, but it isn't a cure-all.

He's obtuse because he doesn't agree with you that you can fix every health problem by being in shape? I'm in pretty good shape for my age (49), probably better than 95% of my peers, and I still have health issues.Plus I get tired more easily and feel old because, well, I *am* old. You have no idea what you are talking about, so perhaps should be quiet when your elders are talking.

and I am pretty sure I never said it was.
To me fitness is akin to risk management/mitigation, I control the risk I can.

You're part of the furniture around here.
I started posting on CP during University. That makes me feel old.

The bolded is factually incorrect. You feel more tired and old in your 40s because you are getting old. If you are an outlier to this so far, good for you, but there is a reason few pro athletes make it to their 40s, and it's not because they don't train enough.
The italicized is also not necessarily true. Some people in good shape die in their 40s. Also, you are clearly implying that anyone who doesn't feel like frolicking every day for the sheer joy of being fit and 40+ is merely lazy and out of shape. Which further implies that if you're not well, it's your own fault and exercise will fix it.
Whippersnapper.

Okay, everyone throw your canes into the middle and the cane you pick up is the dude you have to fight. I'll be at the bar taking bets.

Oh I see, I didn't say that you can "fix every health problem by being in shape".
Solid, solid work.
You say I am an outlier, but you use pro-athletes, the greatest of all outliers to make a point.

I have never said that fit people in their 40's don't die but some people that are in good shape don't die in their 40's.
I have said that i would rather control/reduce the chances of getting sickness/disease related to poor physical health.
"Implied" that is a neat way of saying you failed to comprehend the post.

You can do pretty much whatever you want when you're 25 and you will feel young and probably be in good shape. When you're 45, you have to work at staying in shape. Even then, you're not going to have the same energy or recover as quickly as you did when you were 25. Bad backs, the need for orthodics, weakening eyesight, bum knees. These things are wear and tear that eventually affect most people.

I've had three heart attacks and two mini strokes due to a health condition. In a way I've always felt old. Though in another way, I'm beginning to feel nothing can kill me, lol.
Staying active is obviously very important, but sometimes stuff happens anyway.

I've read a few studies saying our happiness hits the lowest point in our 40s and then gradually increase in our 50s and 60s. Most people in their 40s will be sandwiched between looking after their still young children and starting to ail parents. Our health will also be going the other way so I agree the 40s is a tough time for especially man.
The other reason is that in our 40s, we started to see our limitations. And we can dream to do things in the next ten years anymore and if something you haven't done by now, you probably will never do it.

I've been hiring minimum wage staff for a small business in the past couple of months. Most are students obviously... But when socializing or chatting, I have had University aged kids telling me about their childhoods and childhood interests/experiences like Pokemon, etc. expecting me to share the same background (I look young) when my childhood interests predate those by up to two decades.
IE: They like Pokemon from 2004. I like He-Man from 1984.
