Brian Mulroney leads push to bring back Quebec Nordiques
http://sports.nationalpost.com/2014/...bec-nordiques/
Quebec City Mayor Regis Labeaume spoke of Mulroney’s involvement on Monday as he reacted to news that Peladeau, former head of Quebecor Inc., is running for the Parti Quebecois in the April 7 election.
Mulroney, who is vice-chairman of the Quebecor board, has been involved in the hockey file right from the beginning and he and NHL commissioner Gary Bettman share a mutual respect, Labeaume said.
“Commissioner Bettman and (ex-)prime minister Mulroney have spoken directly for quite some time, without intermediaries,” Labeaume said.
The mayor said the eventual decision on whether Quebec City will get an NHL team will depend not on politics but on the benefits it provides the league.

Shame that beauty of an arena has neither a NBA or NHL tenant currently.

I almost laughed when someone said they are under budget. I'm sorry but that's just not how things work in Quebec. Either they are hiding something or the walls are hollow.

The walls aren't hollow, they're filled with bodies

It'll be a great facility, but yeah, really boring exterior design.

It'll be the best junior arena in the CHL though.

It's hard to believe that they would build that without a handshake deal for a team. This isn't 1985 anymore where a city (Hamilton) builds a rink like that on a wing and a prayer.
At the same time, Kansas City is still waiting for the NBA, and the tanking Loonie could well change the NHL's immediate plans.

This is Quebec remember. The government is known for wasting money. If I was the NHL I wouldn't be in a hurry to move a team to Quebec unless they were really desperate. Having a team in Quebec doesn't grow the league, while a team in Las Vegas would bring in a lot less revenue but would bring more people not already watching the NHL into the fold.

I think some larger cities like Toronto and Edmonton might want one first.

"Growing the league" is such a fallacy and does nothing to help the Flames.
The league was much better imo when we had 21 or less teams....who cares about growing the league in stupid southern markets....sure it helps the game outside of Canada....but who cares about that.
Having less teams and only strong interest in Canada and Northern US doesn't lessen my love of the sport....in fact having these stupid teams in Florida and Tennessee, etc actually lessens my enthusiasm and waters down the talent.
I hope Quebec gets a team....at the expense of some non-hockey market.

QC revenue even at 80% of the US dollar is still going to beat any other market they can move it.

Shouldn't this thread title now be "Rapporter Les (Pas Bon) Nordiques"?
