Exactly the same thing as the NHL playing hardball on Sochi. The league is going to the Olympics, everyone knows it, but the union will have to give something up to make it happen.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers agreed to a four-year extension with general manager Mark Dominik on Monday.
"I am appreciative of the confidence the Glazer family has in the direction of the franchise," Dominik, who has been with the organization for 16 years, told the team's website. "I am looking forward to working into my 20th year as a proud part of this community and organization. The mission is to continue building this team into a lasting contender and to bring championships back to the Tampa Bay area."

I find it strange that the NFL Network still has active players appearing on its broadcasts.
If the owners run NFLN, why isn't it included in the lockout?
Is this a sign that NFLN is indeed held at arms length from the owners?
It just seems a bit strange to me that this specific arm of the NFL seems to be able to carry on with business as usual with all the turmoil surrounding everything else.

The Bucs will play in London for the second time in two years this season.
ESPN Chicago is reporting the Bucs and Bears will play in this year's international game. The NFL regular-season schedule hasn’t been released yet, but the report cited sources. The game generally is played at Wembley Stadium around midseason.

As the NFL lockout enters its second month, players from at least 16 teams have already sought out extremely aggressive short-term loans with high interest rates, ThePostGame.com has learned.
According to a financing source, these interest rates range from 18 percent to 24 percent, and upon default, they can rise as high as 36 percent.

What's more amazing is that the players don't get paid in the off season. So even if there wasn't a lockout they wouldn't be getting paid at the moment.
This is the main reason why I can't stand NFL. All about the $$ and they don't care about the college they attend or they would have something other then a major in basket weaving.

What pro sport isnt all about $$$?
And over 50% of NFL players graduate college before going pro and another significant % finish up after their playing days are over.

I've got an NFL player staying at my hotel right now. When he comes back I will ask him a few questions about the lockout to see if he knows anything or will divulge anything.

I wont divulge his name but he is a starter in the NFL, and he isn't considered a super star or even a star really.

UPDATE:
He told me that it was probable that they are going to play next year. This was also the same guy that told me last off season that they probably wouldn't play. He stated that things may seem like they're not going so well but in fact some things have been coming together.
He said that more than likely they we will hear about them playing in about a month. They will probably not have a new CBA signed but only working on last years rules until a new CBA can be agreed upon.
He said that both sides can agree on that by not playing they are going to lose too much money.
now with that being said I don't know what to believe. I still don't think things will pan out well for the players in the league.

The fact that both sides have really cut down on the rhetoric is, I hope, a sign that both sides can see the chance of a resolution.

Had a different NFLer stay at my place today and he doesn't think they're going to play next year.

I'm planning on going to Green Bay for the first game of the season (Thursday night), then either to Denver or Seattle for the Sunday game. Hurry up and settle this thing so I can book my flights!
Billionaires and millionaires fighting over money that thousandaires provide. It just doesn't seem right.

Hmmm...may not be for NO the season opener afterall.

On his Twitter account, former Packers public relations director Jeff Blumb said he was hearing through the NFL grapevine that that Packers would be playing the Chicago Bears in the Thursday night opener.
While this is not locked in stone, I wouldn't bet against Blumb's insider knowledge. He has many contacts throughout the NFL and has often been right about such league matters.

great read on the staggering cost of picking high in the NFL draft...
Quote:
The inequity of committing more money to Matthew Stafford than, say, Tom Brady, is self-explanatory. But this isn't solely an issue of unproven rookies getting too large a piece of the pie. In recent years, the NFL's current program has in essence become a tax on losing.
Take a look at the chart accompanying this post. In order to sign the 14 first-round draft picks they made between 2000-10, the Lions committed more than $213 million in guaranteed money. I don't have the corresponding numbers for every NFL team, but I can tell you that none paid more than the Lions over that stretch
